"Lea" Singing A Chinese Version of On My Own

Here is the YouTube link to a Chinese girl singing along with Lea Salonga's TAC On My Own:

Hope her rendition has brought down the language barrier and you would enjoy it.

Wow, a lot of work must have gone into this (and the DYHTPS and Work Song that are already up). The translation, the singing, the mixing, dubbing the final product over TAC footage... I'm starting to suspect the Chinese Les Mis community must be more active than the English one. Wink

And the final product, aside from the unavoidably cheesy backing track, is fantastic.

That is amazing!

Love it.

Btw, any word on the Chinese production that was supposed to open at Shanghai's Grand Theatre back in 2007?

Many thanks for your encouraging comments.

Initially, I thought that lip-synch would be the most difficult part of mixing. But when we played the first result, we found that, despite the first few lines were well synchronised, they were the most uncomfortable scene to watch.

The reason? You may have guessed it correctly: the Chinese singer opened her lines in a lonely (and lonely-only) mood, while Lea SALONGA at the TAC concert started in a (controversially) angrily-lonely mood. As a result, the singing and the acting were simply not in harmony.

In the published clip, those lines were mixed with still images zoomed in or out. There remain some unsynchronised parts in the clip, but overall, the facial and vocal emotions were well matched.

To stage a Chinese production in Shanghai was proposed first for 2005, then for 2007.

2009 was another year scheduled for such a production, this time, in Beijing.

All those missions were interrupted by the releases of a Tom Cruises film series, I believe.

Another odd-numbered year, 2011 is a new target, but I am just wondering if an even numbered year should be chosen to make it really happen.

I would not say "more active than", but probably "as active as"...
The Chinese musical forum at ChinaMusical.Net/BBS has over 27,000 members/IDs, with the hottest subforum being called ABC Cafe. The highest number of (1635) visitors online (at the same time) was recorded on 15 Nov 2007 following Camacks announcement of a Les Mis audition for a Chinese production, which was unfortunately not materialised.

Did you mean a more operatic, rather than a pop, Enjy?

We have also uploaded a Chinese ECaET onto youtube.

But we know we have a lot of more to do to make them up to scratch.

Many thanks.

Watching your site is a bit like watching Royal [Musical] Variety Show, lots of different things.
