a Silly question

Hello i just want to know how is Eponine character better played.
Is it by a soprano or by a mezzo soprano?
Ghost

Eponine, unlike Cossette is does not require an operatic range, so you'll just need to belt it. It doesn't really go too high either.

Yea...I really don't think it matters what range you sing it in (I've heard many different keys and ranges in my time) so long as you can belt that last part...because thats the part that everyone expects to be HUGE. Smile

Yeah, because, isn't her highest note (at least in the piano book) an E? Ya know, when she sings: there's been no one like him anywhere, anywhere, where he is. Right?

Eponine goes briefly to an E on "Run for it, it's Javert," "There's been no one like him anywhere," and "I'm gonna scream, I'm gonna warn them here." She has to have a strong belt on the E in "One more day all on my own," as well as for "...that I have never known" (C) and the optional D on "pretending" in On My Own, and number of belted C's in A Little Fall of Rain. She also has a sustained D at the end of A Heart Full of Love that should not be belted.

Highest note is actually an F on the big unison "Tomorrow we'll discover what our god in heaven has in store," but it's not as important that that note be strong because it is in a big chorus part.

Lowest note is the F below middle C, and no faking it. Unlike Fantine who only has two or three really low notes, Eponine has eight zillion low F's in the letter scene, A Little Fall of Rain, and a couple other places.

So basically you're looking at a range of F-F.

So, F is high, and F is low? Huh? Lol, I'm so musically challenged.

Yeah, the F below middle C to the second F above it. Two octaves total.

Someone explained to me roughly those notes few years ago, but i don't really remember. So, i am always amused when i see those threads. It is like when doctors talk between each other on those medical dramas Very Happy .

I swear, Eponine's range is the exact same as my range.

Too bad my voice doesn't really have a nice quality to it... at all.
