Audition - Stuck for ideas!

The local youth theatre is doing Les Mis soon and the auditions are next Sunday...I know it's short notice but me and my sis are having a mad panic on songs to sing!

I'm 15 (it's for 10-19yr olds), about 5'4... I think the part of Cosette would suit my voice better as I'm definitely a soprano and can manage top C on a good day, usually around A or B flat though.

I am really out of ideas for a song though, I can't find any that would be suitable..

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks xx
Aimee

Use your legit voice for certain if you're going for Cosette, no belting there. Other than that if its in a hurry you wont have time to do justice to a new song so pick a song you know and sing well already. Smile

If you give as a few ideas of your current repertoire we can advise you on that.

Also, I'm not sure about the SE but in the profesional show Cosette needs a sound top C. If you have one [and need one] make sure you brush it up and get it good and secure before the audition.

Good Luck, its a great role if you get it.

Having directed the School Edition I can confirm that Cosette needs a really solid top C - she hits them several times, along with plenty of Bs and As! It would detract from some of the big numbers if it didn't work!

I would definitely recommend something you know well - when I'm auditioning people I actually find it quite pretentious if people sing a song from the show... it makes it seem like it's the only character you would consider. I'd prefer to hear something you're really confident with. Nothing powerful if you want to sound like Cosette - I'd be looking for a classical, lyrical voice with lots of expression and light and shade. As Aimee suggested, post some ideas and I'll be happy to comment!

I'm not too good with audition song suggestions, but what about something like "The Beauty Is" from The Light in the Piazza? Clara kinda reminds me of Cosette...actually, now that I think about it, they're pretty similar...whoa...
