Audition

I have an audition next week for Les Mis and I really want to do well. Like every other girl and her sister, I am auditioning for Eponine with "On My Own" (hey, give me a break...it's a good alto/mezzo role), but I could still be called back for Mdm. T or Fantine. Any and all suggestions about characterization you guys could give me would be appreciated greatly. Thanks so much!

dont sing it. its overdone. they wont like it. try something else maybe something from hello dolly (one of the sadder ones) or something else. just not anything from any of the popular musicals

they're making us sing a song from the show. for me (an alto/mezzo) I can either sing "on my own," "i dreamed a dream," or "master of the house." i know, it's kind of weird, but it's what my director wants. so yes, i'm singing it not out of choice, but out of necessity.

I guess you have no choice then...you could do part of A Little Fall of Rain too...

personally, i like a little fall rain better, and the acting on that is quite difficult, i would go with that.

Sing either, it really doesn't matter, as one has gaps which you need to 'fill' and one is said to be over done. If, like here, you get set songs then it makes the choice easy its how you do it that counts.

Either way, do your research, look into who each of the characters are, really try and feel the emotions they are experiencing as you perform it. Make sure you know every word and every note and above all relax and try to enjoy it. People who relax sing much better [as hard as it is to adition that way].

If you do a search here too you'll find lots of audition tips, choose just the Les Mis forum to search and it will give you lots of information.

Good Luck.

So I did my audition this afternoon and I think it went well. There's another day of auditions tomorrow then callbacks on friday (if we don't get snow..). All I can do now is wait!

Good luck.... you lucky person. We can't even do the school version at my theatres because we're too close to NY.
