Cornell John

What do you think of him as Javert?

I would post my thoughts, but it's 1am and I have Mock AS's next week that I must revise for Very Happy
Fantine

I really liked him, he surprised me. He gave more character to Javert... Which I liked after seeing Michael McCarthy twice.

I thought it acted the part fantastically, and he was a good singer... but his voice was a little unusual for Javert.
But yes, he was very good.

I've only seen him once and don't think hi voice has the power it need to completely fill the role. I'd say it 80% great 20% too weak. I expect he's got better since I saw him but I miss Michael McCarthy. I know some people were bored of him but to me he was the perfect pro.

Hello

On the whole i liked him. I thoght his voice was good, but not as good as Michael McCarthy.

He puts more emotions, and acts the role much more than MM, but i believe MM interpretation of the role is the right one.

I hope he got even better since i saw him last time in July. But on the whole i am not too fond of this cast (apart from the incredible JOJ of course) that is why i never went back again, but i will go one more time before June.
The Very Angry Woman

I've obviously never seen him.

But I think he's hot.

I've seen him twice. The first being last summer. Therefore he was new-ish to the role and was inevitably nervous.

I must say that I was disappointed in his voice, I thought it was far too weak. However his acting is very good for the role. As said above, I feel he interprets Javert's emotions very well, but I don't feel his weaker voice backs it up.

I then saw him again on Wednesday night, and I have to sy he's improved noticeably. His acting has become even more intimate, and his voice has gotten stronger and more confident. All in all, that Wednesday's performance was the best I've seen, but John Owen-Jones was ill, meaning his understudy took the role (still with a fantastic voice, but his acting was slightly odd).

So, I guess I've grown used to Cornell, although, I still think there's room for vocal improvement - I would say it's 30% too weak for the role of Javert.
