Enjolras Help!!!

Ok, so I just got cast as Enjolras in Les Mis: School Edition, and I don't really know a lot about him. I know some basics but if you could give me anymore info that'd be great!

Thanks!

Not to mention my favourites:

Read this; don't do this; and if you look like a neurotic bird, flapping its wings, whilst screaming about the death of a respected political figure: you're doing it wrong. As demonstrated by the lovely Drew Sarich: http://lesmis.wikia.com/wiki/TEH_PEOPLE'S_MAN_ZOMG!

I love how everyone just says "Oh God don't do it like Drew!!!"
Which is, of course, completely the right thing to do. Wink

I can't believe I've never searched Thaxton on youtube. I'd forgotton how goddamn awesome he was. Well, no, I hadn't forgotton, but it's nice to see it again.

Thaxton. Be David Thaxton. That's it pretty much covered really.

I hope you have a good rise. You'll need one.

Hur hur hur.

Let others riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiise...

(and can I just say - I love how every thread on here at some point turns into DT!fangirling xD)
music is my life!!!

lol I think Enjy just needs to be able to be a convincing leader, and be strong, and be withheld in showing his emotions, esp when Gavroche dies. he's the leader, so you really need to command the stage!

And also, make sure you're warmed up. There are wayyyy too many times i watch videos of the Beggars scene on youtube, and Enjolras can't reach the whole "Barricades arise!" without being flat/sliding/breaking his voice....

It is always funny. You can put me on ignore if you like.

Remember that he is not the type of leader who has to shout and use dramatic body language to get people to follow him. People just are drawn to him. David Thaxton does this thing in Red and Black where he sings 'Lamarque is dead' in a near-whisper, so that everyone goes quiet and only then does he gradually raises his voice up to the big, loud 'they will come when we call'.
Obviously I'm not saying copy him, though. But it might be a good start.
Also, make it clear that you're in total control the whole time. An Enjolras who fades into the background is not an Enjolras at all.

LOL I was SO going to use that as an example. He literally goes:

Lamarque
is dead
Lamarque...
His death is the hour of fate!

The people's man
...
His death is the sign we awaaaaaaaaiiiiiiit!
On his funeral day they will honour his name!
With the light of rebellion ablaze in their eyes!
From their candles of grief, we will kindle the flame

On the tomb of Lamarque shall our Barricade RIIIISE!
The time is heeeeeere!
Let us welcome it gladly with COURAAAGE and CHEER!
Let us take to the streets with no doubt in our hearts!
But a jubilant
SHOUT! - they will come one and aaaaaaall
THEY WILL COME WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEN WE CAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...AAAA...AAAA...AAA...AAAAAAAALL!

Mr. Green and then he silences the others so they can hear the people sing.
music is my life!!!

^^^ that's not in the school version. that is after "it's the sign we await!". it just goes into an inappropriately shortened version of DYHTPS? , unfortunately Sad

In the book Victor Hugo describes him by saying "Enjolras was a charming young man, who was capable of being terrible." He's a great guy who's very passionate about what he's doing, so you better stay on his good side. He's so charismic that everybody naturally WANTS to follow him. He's just a guy that you can't help but trust, because he's always very sure of himself. Whenever Enjolras is on the stage, even if he's not speaking at the time, everybody knows he's there because his presence is commanding, and no matter what is going on he always seems to be in charge of the situation.
