Enjy vest! (project in progress)

I felt like making a thread for my great Les Mis costume experiment.

I'm taking clothing as my elective this year, and my current project: Enjolras's vest!
As of yet, I have gotten the fabric and the pattern. All the pieces are cut out, and the sewing will commence tomorrow- I am very excited.
After the regular vest is done I will spend my life attaching gold sparkly things to it. If anyone has any recommendations on how to accomplish this without spending 100s of dollars on gold buttons (I counted on some pics- I think there are 100 buttons!)
Pictures will be posted here along the way. I hope to eventually get a red, white, and blue sash, black necktie, and a ruffled shirt together as well. Oh, and of course a red flag.
Wish me luck!

Good luck ! Sounds like an admirable project.

I know when I first got obsessed (in the eighth grade) I rounded up a few friends and we all went as various LM chars. I was Javert, sporting a top hat, thrift store greatcoat I got for $15, and sideburns made of faux fur that I duct-taped to my face. Then I had a friend go as Eponine, another go as Enjy (she had a plain red vest and a red flag, so it kinda worked), and my mom wore an old bridesmaid's dress and too much makeup to be Madame Thenardier. It was basically the most amazing Halloween ever. I remember chasing my friends down the street screaming, "TO JAIL WITH YOU ALL !" and startling a few neighbours in the process...

Then, the Eponine friend and I went to see LM in NYC just before it closed the first time. We were kind of stupid... and weird... so I bought some blue, white, and red fabric from WalMart and made up little sashes and those rosette thingies to wear to the show. We also put red and black ribbons in our hair, painted our nails red and black, and had home-made shirts with our favourite characters' names on the back. It was the best time I've ever had. The actors are really nice to you when they think you're mentally unstable.

I totally never did that or anything. <.< >.> <.<

I wore a sash to see the show on Barricades Day. Half of the actors were like "What's Barricades Day?" But some of them were like "OH YOU'RE RIGHT!" and some of them were like "Ooookay."

I always enjoy wearing something Les Misish to the show. Either a hat or a sash or... well I went in costume once, but that was some poor judgement and I went with a group of friends so it wasn't entirely pathetic. (Plus, Melissa Lyons said my costume was really good. That = highlight of my cosplaying life.)

That explains a lot, really.

I once made a total mess of an Enjolras costume--forty-two rows of gold braid sewn onto a badly-fitting red vest at the last minute. Oy. Utter disaster. The next year I was whore!Fantine for Halloween; not a replica costume from the show, just ragged slutty clothes, ghastly consumptive makeup, blacked-out front teeth, and short hair. This year I did Cosette, which turned out nicely and I should have photos at some point. And I've also slapped together an Eponine costume and of course Random Frenchboy Drag.

I might've worn Random Frenchboy Drag to the show once, I forget; if I did, nobody commented. I don't think I'd wear an obvious costume to the show outside Halloween or maybe Barricade Day. It's not something like Phantom where people spend loads of time and money making elaborate replicas which IMO they're well within reason to show off--anyone can buy a newsboy cap, rip up a brown skirt, smear themselves with dirt, and call it an Eponine costume. (A well-made Enjolras costume would be a different matter though. Talk about time-consuming.)

I once swore that I would wear my Javert costume to the show, but I haven't yet gathered the nerve to do it...

It's complete! It's not perfect, but for limited sewing experience and money to spend on shiny things, I'm pretty proud. I just bought a white blouse to wear under it, and I have some red, white, and blue fabric to make a sash. Guess what I'll be running around Paris in?

Ahhhh, that's cute! I fully support Les Mis costume/set replicas. I used to make Les Mis set replicas as a kid. Loads of fun, like taking a bit of the show home with you, lol. Great job.

SO. CUTE!

I am both impressed and amazed!
Fantine

It looks awesome!

(Can't believe I missed this thread... hmm Confused)

Thanks guys! Sash is in progress, and I have enough fabric to make a red flag. Twisted Evil

I did Eponine for Halloween once (that's probably the easiest costume to do) and was worried that no one would recognize it until I walked into Drama class and got "Oh my God; I love you! Please don't die!" and "Why didn't you tell me? I would have been Marius!"

Also, the vest looks awesome.

Haha I've done Eponine too, but after doing a few Les Mis costumes, I decided Little Cosette is the easiest. Brown, ripped clothes. That's about it. Valjean scene I is pretty easy too. ^^ Eponine's skirt was hard to find.

I can't imagine beginning the Enjy vest. Good job! That's so impressive.

Oh, I didn't do a skirt. I did her Act 2 outfit with the cap, trenchcoat etc. I wore a pair of grey slacks that I was really lazy about and didn't bother to rip up.
Fantine

I did the Eponine costume too. I was lucky enough that my mom had a skirt which looked perfect (however weird that sounds).

I would love to have a dress like Cosette.

Also I'd love to dress up as Fantine but the only thing I have resembling her costume right now is the cam necklace.
