Fanfiction

I know that many of you will try to rip your eyes out when reading the topic of this thread... But that's too bad Wink

So what is your favourite - ever - fanfiction that you read? (and the link please) Wink

I do intend on drawing serious and more or less believable fanfics in this thread.

Favorite Les Mis fic ever is The Colour of Despair, which is a LM/The Crow crossover that's actually better than the original Crow. Concerning a resurrected Grantaire and an Enjolras who needs avenging. It's not so much the premise as the fact that the author makes it work, and the writing is a lot better than 99% of the fanfiction out there. (It's really, seriously not for kiddies, though. Thoroughly deserves its R rating, that one does.)
Cloudy This Morning

Certainly 'Between the Dog and the Wolf' by AmZ. Truly fantastic. (Sadly, however, she doesn't seem to be updating it anymore.)

What kind of stories do you prefer? Lenghty stories or one shots... Lot's of drama, serious fics, humorous fics....?

And which characters do you tend to read about?

Hello

The few Fanfictions (is this really one word?) i read were really, really bad. Most of them were around Eponine. She was ending up either with Marius, or Enjolras!!!.

I think it would be interesting to imagine what would have happen to Javert if he didn't commit suicide.
Or, what if Marius didn't learn that Valjean rescued him, kept his hostile approach to him, and then Cosette learnt about Valjean's past. How she would have reacted? that would develop Cosette as character.

Ultimately though, good writing is the most important issue here, and i am afraid that is something 99% of fanfiction's writers don't possess. So, no matter how interesting their ideas, the reading is not going to be that enjoyable.
That doesn't mean people shouldn't try, but i think they should keep it(very) short, otherwise readers will just get bored.

Some of my favourites:

"The Day Before" by Beezer1.

The day before Eponine meets Marius the day she dropped the letters. An expanded version of an old drabble. Chapter 4 edited per AmZ's comments. Don't know much about the hx of French money and am not inclined to research it. Minor adjustments made per

"Art of the Possible" by BellaSpirit

What if Valjean left the Waterloo Inn with Eponine and Azelma, instead of Cosette? AU.

(All of BellaSpirit's LM stories are amazing - I also highly reccomend her Fantine fic "Gold and Pearls" but this one stood out the most to me...it's a shame it's unfinished)

"The Spoken" by H. Sibelius

I have seen Way too many bad (insert book here)Characters Go to High School" fics. Thus, it must be a real literary challenge to pull it off. First four chapters have been majorly renovated.

All excellent, excellent fics. Well worth a read.[/url]

I think I read that one just a few days ago.

I do agree LMF, good fics are hard to find. There are way too many "These Were Eponine's Last Thoughts When She Got Shot" stories (and I am also to blame Crying or Very sad ). I have been on Fanfiction.net since 2002 or something and of course being Dutch, it wasn't easy to write. But I do learn a LOT, which is why it is useful for me.
