Forum CastI've Noticed that there seemed for a while there to be alot of forum casting going on. Why don't we try to do one? I say we use the rules of the other casts like for Beauty and the beast. What do ya think? |

What I liked about it last time was that most people on the Les Mis forum have a fair idea about each other's online personalities and so some of the casting was quite good. Whereas if you post about why people should cast you for a particular role, you can miss out on a lot of what other people think about you, which was a nice suprise for a lot of people last time, I seem to remember.  Just my tup'pence worth.

Forum recordings never work- I think at least 5 have been started on the Les Mis forum while I've been a member and none have succeeded. This thread from 2006 tells you pretty all the reasons why not. |

That's kinda one reason why I was curious, considering over in the Sweeney Todd forum, they did a forum cast just for bragging rights at first and now, they've decided to do a recording. I wouldn't mind having a Les Mis forum cast if there was no recording involved. (Considering some people might not be able to do it.) |

Vocally, the only part I could possibly play in Les Mis (with my voice right now, at age 17) is Cosette, 'cause my high Cs are strong but below the A below middle C ... Eponine/Fantine range ... it's not so good.
However, apparently this doesn't have to do with vocal ability? Whatever, I'd still put my name in for Cosette.

There are different ways of doing it. Either you 'audition' by writing out all the roles you're trying out for, and why you feel you deserve the role, and then throw in a picture (optional) so that people will know if you look the role or not.
Or, you nominate people to each role and whoever gets the most nominations for each role gets the role. (Probably not gonna work as well.) |

I have this kick ass Grantaire pic from the 3rd NT where he looks especially drunk and messy--sort of the way I look on Saturday nights (I kid, I kid. I'm not as big a drunkard as I make myself seem ). I'll use that as my sig pic if I get cast.

Yeah, I did. I remember thinking it was funny because while he's my favorite character, I don't exactly consider myself an Enjolras--unless I got a misprinted version of the Brick, and everyone else read the version where Enjolras is sarcastic, pedantic, and nerdy.

I don't think anyone has issues with members wanting to audition for Eponine. It's the stereotypical way that member pleaded to get cast, haha.

Aww, man. Guilty as charged, heh! I should have perused the site before I registered...even though I still consider myself an unabashed Eponine fan. I just wish I picked a more creative screen handle! :p I think Fantine is an awesome character, too! And Javert. And Enjy. Hell, they're all cool.
Anyway, I don't post much, but it would be nice to have a part in the forum cast, if even a small role. I wouldn't mind crossing genders and being a strapping young barricade boy, either!

It sounds fun! Since I'm kind of a newbie I'll probably be casted as sailor 3 or boy-without-a-name in the barricade, but that's fun
I don't like the idea or nominations though First, because part of the fun is get to know how other people see you. If someone who's participative and nice starts asking for a certain character we will all feel like voting him for it, whether he she reminds us of it or not... and then, being like "please, please, I would like to be X", would be so unlike most of the characters... Actually, I'm just thinking notiminations could be used in a twisted way, he, he If someone says : "please, could I be Cosette?", well, then she should be voted for �ponine, because, who is there in les mis who would like to be Cosette more than �ponine? So, wanting to be Cosette is actually a trait of an �ponine personality.
I mean, what are we going to vote, the character the member likes most or the character the member reminds us of most? Because it is totally different... |

Haha, bigR, I see you've given this a lot of thought.
This is something that makes me sad about the fandom. Those slashy slashy barricade boys get all the attention! My ever-changing obsession is currently stopped at Fantine (though Cosette and Montparnasse are always my favourite characters), and there's almost no fanfic for her! Same for Valjean, oddly enough, but we've had that discussion before. Twice.

I actually don't remember the specific moment that "lesmisloony" popped into me head. I know I'd just gotten AIM, was in the seventh or eighth grade, and was trying to come up with a better name than "Mousedropp89" (which was an inside joke with one of my friends) and I was, for about a month, "LesMizLoony" on AIM before I decided I likes the "s" version better. And then... I got an expage (remember those? ) and called it "Les Mis Loonies Unite" or something to that effect... then the xanga... then the accidental discovery of Le Cafe while browsing lesmis.com... then Mystical Chinchilla's page "Rue de la Perle" (still one of my favourite sites: http://www.geocities.com/gollum_skitzo/home.html) and then, through her site, discovered fanfiction.net...

I showed up late to the fandom party, so I picked Orestes Fasting because it's never already taken. Trufax. (Nor is Combeferret, my AIM screen name, but I didn't stumble upon that particular joke until later.)
My other online handle, Marianne, has origins that are slightly more obscure and only partially related to Les Mis. Serious props to anyone who manages to guess. |

As to the forum cast, I think I prefer the casting without people putting their name down for particular parts. That could prevent as many smaller characters from being cast, especially since even the ensemble characters in Les Mis have character traits or personalities. It is true though that liking a character doesn't necessarily make you that character. For example, I think lesmisloony might be on dangerous ground when it comes to the closest Les Mis has to a loony character who likes Montparnasse.

That would be... ironic... since said character is probably my least favourite in the musical (depending on how its played blah blah). I was sorta expecting I'd have a shot at just being Montparnasse himself... As to Marianne, it's more or less the French equivalent of Uncle Sam, right? |

The Sweeney Todd forum cast is indicative of how most forum casts are done. The only one that I know did nominations, other than this one two years ago, is the Cats forum cast. THat works for Cats though because there's like 40 users there that frequent the Cats forum. It probably wouldn't work well here. | ||||||||
