Happy Eponine Day! (WARNING: VERY IMAGE HEAVY)

Okay - so when I was just getting into the fandom, I dubbed June 4th as Eponine day. That was when I was more of a bopper and hadn't read the novel. Ever since then, though, I've been celebrating it by posting something online, like pictures of every scenes.

This year, I did something sort of different. I did cartoon versions of pretty much every scene that Eponine is in. I'm not very good at drawing, so some of these are kind of bad, but ... yeah! They took a long time and I'm pretty happy with how some of them turned out. Just so you know, I didn't draw many backgrounds because they would take too long and I absolutely fail at them.

Also, after my friends commented, I decided I should say this at the beginning: the wrinkles in her shirt aren't pudge. I hardly think that somebody living on the streets would have a pot belly. That was my sad attempt at making the shirt look too big.

So - on with the pictures!

Eponine, come my dear! Eponine, let me see you! You look very well in that little blue hat.

That's Eponine, she knows her way about, only a kid, but hard to scare!
That was my first time doing the skirt, and I went a bit overboard with the rips.

Hey, whatcha do with all these books? I could have been a student too! Don't judge a girl on how she looks - I know a lot of things, I do!

I didn't see you there -- forgive me.

Cosette, now I remember...
Now just imagine she's sitting on the set... I wasn't up to trying that one.

No, I don't want your money sir.

In my life, there's been no one like him anywhere...
This picture is confusing without an explanation - it's Marius' coat that he put on Eponine's shoulders. I based this one off of the revival, because I thought that moment was kind of sweet.

He was never mine to lose...

AAAAAHHHHHH!

Dearest Cosette, my friend 'Ponine brought me to you, showed me the way.
Rue Plumet gates mysteriously changed. Also, Cosette looks like a demon. I meant to recreate that moment when they mirror each other's movements but... that didn't work out so well.

One more day all on my own...

One more dawn! One more day! One day more!
This picture actually has a sort of funny story behind it. My first try was an absolute DISASTER. Enjolras looked like a balloon. This one isn't much better, but it's not quite as horrendous. I tried to make Eponine look like she was farther back, but now she just sort of looks like she's very petite... and floating.

Little you know... little you care.

I have a letter, Monsieur.
This is actually my favorite drawing out of all of them.

On my own, pretending he's beside me...

A world that's full of happiness that I have never known!
I've never actually seen an Eponine who takes her hat off, but I saw a picture of one once... and I really like the color I used for her hair.

Took the letter like you said. I met her father at the door. He said he would give it -- I don't think I can stand anymore.

The rain that brings you here is heaven blessed!
You may notice that Marius has no legs... I couldn't figure out where they would be. <.<

Her name was Eponine. Her life was cold and dark, yet she was unafraid.

Take my love, for love is everlasting.
Valjean's beard = awful. I didn't remember until when I was nearly done outlining in pen that he has a beard. x_x

So... yes. Happy Eponine day everybody!

Awww...that is sooo cute!

There is nothing wrong with loving Eponine, as taboo as it is nowadays. Rolling Eyes

The character is amazing when played right...which is rare, sadly.

Cute drawing Very Happy
Fantine

I love them! They made me laugh (in a good way). Smile
EponineMNFF

Thanks so much, everyone! Very Happy

I aree Quique; I'm always in awe when the character is played correctly. And I cry a lot more when she dies. x_x

Those pictures are so lovely!

June 6th called be celebrated as Barricade Day! Well, it was the day the barricade fell wasn't it?
EponineMNFF

Thanks so much!

I celebrate June 5th and June 6th as Barricades Day...s

It makes everything much more festive because by the second day, everybody knows what I'm talking about. Hehe
broadwaybelle22

I love the one where Marius is holding Eponine at the baricades. They're so sweet!
eponine5

Great pictures!

By the way, I think that now it's pretty much standard blocking in London that Eponine takes off her hat in On My Own. It's at the beginning of the final verse; as she sings 'I love him' she takes her hat off and runs forward to the front of the stage.
Eponine93

Good, good, good drawings.

The only thing I didn't quite understand is why Fantine and Enjolras look exactly the same... Besides that, the pictures are so adorable.

Adorable pictures, great job! Very Happy Hurray for Eponine. <3
EponinesRain

Very nice, MNFF! Smile Thanks for sharing.

In celebration, I read over some of the Eponine parts in the book and wanted to quote some of my favorite descriptions of her!

"She was humming to herself as though she were alone, snatches of music-hall songs, cheerful ditties which her raucous, tuneless voice made dismal. But beneath this show of boldness there was a hint of unease and awkward constraint...In the animal world no creature born to be a dove turns into a scavenger. This happens only among men."

"She was striving to make her voice soft but could only make it sound more guttural, and some of the words got lost in their passage from her throat to her lips, as on a piano with some of the notes missing. Marius gently drew away."

And there's a lot more, but that's enough adulation on my part. Smile Does that mean that today is Happy Barricade Day?

Very good pictures! They must have taken you a long time - well done! Please don't take this the wrong way, as I don't intend it to be taken insultingly, however I chuckled when I saw Fantine in the last picture - she looks slightly like a 23 year old American 'jock' at College. I think it's the spikey hair.
EponineMNFF

Ooh I like those passages.

Haha don't worry - I'm not offended at all. I drew that one and stared at it, thinking "Fantine sucks so much," but I didn't have the effort to redo it. It's actually quite funny. Laughing
