I saw Cosette at Disneyland!

I found this tucked away in a corner on Main Street, and what makes this even better is that Walt Disney was inspired by the young Cosette section in the book when he created Snow White's terrifying run through the forest. I've tried to locate where I found this info but am not having any luck, perhaps I heard it here?

Anyway, enjoy!

God bless,

Yeah I think it is a bit of a stretch that Snow White = Cosette because I think the story of Snow White was already based on a concrete fairy tale. There wasn't any need for Walt Disney to add any other inspirations.

But I might be totally wrong and off the mark on this.

O/T, but I would like to add that I love Disneyland. I've had their annual pass for 9 years straight at one point in my life.

Actually, Walt Disney based the scene where Snow White is fleeing through the woods from the scene in the 1933 French film Les Miserables where little Cosette is running through the woods to fetch water. Both films involve great moments where trees turn into monsters, etc. I think that is the only connection between Snow White and Cosette that has ever really been made.

Oh. I guess I'm not as familiar with history as I would like to be Embarassed

I think it's a little farfetched.

Well, I don't think he(Walt) meant for it to be a big deal, getting inspired from that Les Mis movie for just that scene is probably all there was to it. I don't think he modeled Snow Whites character after Cosette.

Another bit of Les Miserables/Disney trivia I found on IMDB:

Quote:
Right before the song "One Step Ahead," Aladdin says "All this for a loaf of bread" which is a reference to the musical Les Miserables (where the main character is imprisoned for 20 years for stealing a loaf of bread).

Lol, it could be . . .

And just to extend the Disney analogy a little further...

The original French version of the song that became "Castle On A Cloud" referred to a prince on horseback who would rescue Cosette. ("Someday My Prince Will Come", anyone?)

But Herbert Kretzmer felt (and rightly so) that an eight-year-old girl wouldn't be having romantic dreams of princes...she'd dream of the normal child's life she's missed, with a loving mother and other children to play with.

Well, the story of Aladdin and Les Mis are similar. Aladdin used to be my favorite movie when I was a kid, and when I was familirizing myself with Les Mis for the first time I thought, "Well, Walt Disney totally copied from Victor Hugo with the character of Aladdin."
