In the End...

Based on the book or any other media...

Do we know if Valjean's small crime saved his sister's son?
Kragey

I don't recall that being stated anywhere, but my own personal assumption would be no.

We need Orestes in this thread, stat!
Orestes Fasting

Oh jeez, my reputation precedes me.

Valjean's sister actually had seven kids, who had scattered to the four winds by the time he managed to find out anything about them; the last we hear of them is an anecdote about the sister living in Paris with the youngest son, who has to get up at five in the morning and wait for a few hours in the freezing cold before school opens. Or something.

Actually, in terms of the question, it's largely irrelevant what happened to the family, because Valjean was apprehended before he could actually give them the bread. Oops.

My personal theory is that one of the daughters moved to the outskirts of Paris and married an innkeeper, but that might be too much coincidence even for Hugo. Laughing

I dunno, that's definitely his favorite literary device.

LOL! It's such a small world in Hugo's world. XD
Fantine

It does indeed leave much room for fanfiction.

Lesmisloony, is that a serious fanfic? If so, I might take a read.
lesmisloony

No, it's total humour. But it's actually quite funny... I found it waaay back in the ff.net archives some time ago, and I couldn't help but favourite it. Every time I read it I chuckle.
Fantine

Maybe I'll go read it anyway then Smile
