Is new Broadway Les Miz eligible for a Tony nomination?

Just interested what you guys think of who could be nominated in the Tony's if this revival is eligible at all.
Brother Marvin Hinten, S.

Best Revival, obviously. (Well, one would assume...)

Do you mean is it eligible or who and what do we personally think will get nominated? It's 100% eligible, just like any other revival. Along with Best Revival, it could have nominations in the actor and actress categories, and the technical aspects. It won't be nominated for best book or best score; that category is for new musicals. But other than that, it's eligible just like any other revival on Broadway.

I think Alexander Gemignani and Norm Lewis might both be nominated. Maybe others as well!

It's eligible for best revival. I highly doubt it's going to win, however.

I think Alexander Gemignani will be nominated, but will loose out in the Best Actor category. I also think Aaron Lazar may get a supporting nom, and I won't be surprised if Celia Keenan Bolger gets a nomination (though I can't give an honest opinion because I saw an understudy.) It's a shame Lea Salonga was a replacement- if she wasn't, she most definitely would have gotten a Tony nomination.

I'd actually be slightly surprised if Celia got a nomination. Most people I've seen who like Celia like her because she has the guts to play an unappealing Eponine. I mean, she keeps her sympathetic, but you can really see why Marius didn't want any of that. Given Eponine's cult following, that takes balls of steel as well as acting prowess, and I'm not sure it will be universally appreciated. Wink

You can say that again! (Then again, I wouldn't know, cause I've never seen Les Mis live on stage much less the revival.)

Well, the Tony people aren't stupid. I really doubt there are Eppie-boppers on the Tony commitee.

EponineBarker, I feel so bad for you. Trust me, I know how much it sucks to love a show and not be able to see it live for whatever stupid reasons.

This is true--but a lot of the subtext to Celia's Eponine comes from the book, which I doubt most of them have read. I've seen a lot of people who weren't idiotic Eppie-boppers really dislike Celia's Eponine because they had no idea what she was trying to do with the character. (I've heard similar things about Aaron, though not as often.)

You have a point. I definitely believe though that Aaron will get a nomination. I'm not a fan of reviews (because my views tend to differ from critics) but from all the reviews I read, the critics loved him the best. I also think Alex may get a nomination out of courtesy, if you know what I mean.

OF, who do you think are going to get nominations?

I agree 100% that Alex might get nominated just 'cause he's there, but probably won't win. He's not bad, but he has nothing on Colm or many recent Valjeans.

I could see the supporting nom going to Aaron, Gary, Ali (who I know you don't like but who's had really good reviews), or maybe Celia.
