I just got cast as Cosette in a local teen community theatre production! I'm very excited, as I love this show and this is my first real lead role. Any advice for playing the role well? Thanks for listening to me brag!

Lucky! I'd kill to be in Les Mis, even though I can get nowhere near up where Cosette needs to go... Cosette is probably the most difficult character in the show, because she's so poorly written and even though its crucial to the show's plot that the audience like her, it is very hard to portray a likeable Cosette. Your best bet would be to read the Victor Hugo novel. Next, see if you can find a clip of Ali Ewoldt's performance. You can see a little of her on this clip: http://www.broadwayworld.com/videoplay.cfm?id=2357&show=on. She's playing Cosette currently on Broadway. I saw her live and even though I had problems with her intonation, she is probably the most likeable and cute Cosette out there.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I will definetly try to make Cosette more then what is written, since she's not given as much depth as Fantine or Eponine. And I am very lucky and excited to be in Les Mis! This is actually my second time in it. I was an ensemble member (and whore number 1!) two years ago. And now I'm Cosette. AND whore number 1 haha.
