MADAME THENARDIER - How Much Singing does she do?

I'm not a terribly fantastic singer, and I'm not super familiar with Les Mis. I'm curious as to how much singing this character does, and if it is mostly character singing that someone who isn't perfection can get away with. That's the impression I've gotten so far, but I don't have much reference.

Any help with be lovely.

Oh, and how the heck do you pronounce the name?

Madame Thenardier actually doesn't have to do any real beautiful singing. She has some solos here and there, but it's all in character. In fact, a poor singer would probably have an easier job playing Madame T than a good singer.

I could type out the name phenetically for you, but I think the best way for you to figure out how to pronounce her last name accurately is to go to www.lesmis.com and find the pronounciation guide. It's quite helpful...

Yeah, Mme T is 100% character voice. She has... one scene yelling at Cosette, one verse in Master of the House, half of the Waltz of Treachery, about two lines in Look Down, one verse in One Day More, and some random lines during the wedding scene. Not a huge part, but lots of fun to play, and one of the few sources of comic relief in the show.

music is my life!!!

my mate is a much stronger actor than singer but as long as you can carry a tune, even with off-key moments, it's all about the acting. much more than with eponine, cosette or fantine!

This probably undoubatedly is probably one of the most fun roles to play. Seriously. It's all Character singing, and Every preformances of Les Mis I have attended The Thenadiers get standing ovations...seriously. Its one of the best roles in the show.
