Oh dear God, the shorts. My dad used to wear shorts like that in the 80s, thankfully before I was born.

I love Les Mis with 80s hair. Laughing
Quique

LOL @ the 2nd Enjy's seductive glare.

I love the vintage Les Mis T-shirts. I still have mine from 1989.
EponineMNFF

So one day I opened my drawer and found this:

I swear I didn't set that up. I just remembered that I had that picture. Laughing Those were from the days when I only had two shirts though. Now I have six. <.< >.> <.<
Quique

I have the shirt on the left too. Though I need to get me a new one. My current one is horribly faded.
lesmisloony

I have the grey one in two sizes and the blue in one. So no matter how much I eat, I can still flaunt the LMiness.

I also got one of the new Lovely Ladies shirts, but I made the mistake of getting it in the same size as a normal t-shirt, and it turned out to be one of those skanky shirts that's, like, four sizes smaller than it says it is... so it doesn't fit. Crying or Very sad

ETA: My LM collection...

(Linked because I'm pretty sure the picture is too big...)

OOH! And this:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y102/lesmisloony/DSC02486.jpg
HOW much do I hate the 98 movie? XD I found that poster at the theatre where I work...
Quique

Bahaha!!! @ the poster. XD

Oooh, lucky!!! I only have the grey novel with Cosette on it; the 1935 film version; 70's miniseries; and the TAC DVD.
Fantine

Wow, you have so many films!
lesmisloony

Ahem.

My name is Loony (hi Loony) and I am an eBayaholic.

I think I'm up to nine films, as I have one that's solely on my computer and the 1935 and 1952 come in a box set.
Quique

I'd love to take pics of my stuff as well, but I'm a pig and my LM stuff is either strewn all over the floor or stuffed in boxes and bags. So, I'll spare y'all for now until I clean up, lol.

But here are pics I took of 2 of my T-shirts a while back...

My navy one. <3

And my Broadway 10th anniversary shirt.
EponineMNFF

OMG I WANT THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY ONE!

I have all of the new ones from the revival, one from London, and those two.

And Loony, your copy of the brick is in VERY good condition! Mine is like about to fall apart. O.O

I don't really want to talk about this picture. It's kind of embarrassing, but I thought you guys would enjoy it.

EDIT: Sheesh. That's also an AWFUL picture. It's like awful lighting, awful angle... Anyway. It's still funny.

*Facepalm* It was barricade's day.

OMG! I just found my tenth grade Spanish project. He said I could make a poster board on anything I want.

I have that shirt. It caused a Valjean to make a funny comment to me.
Quique

Do I dare ask? Hehe!
lesmisloony

Aw, great poster, Abby!

And I love the 10th Anni shirt too... why don't I have that?

*will probably have one within a month...*

Oh, eBay...
Quique

OK, so I took some pics of 20 years worth of Les Mis junk. Actually, this isn't even all of it, but most of it.

A collage I made when I was in high school. It is now all worn and faded, but still hanging on my wall.

Some of my souvenir brochures. Some of them don't have covers. Gosh, I take great care of my stuff, don't I? :S

Some random Playbills, all my "The Barricade" issues, the brick, and the OLC LP.

A very old file folder stuffed with random Les Mis ads and articles.

A creepy Cosette bust.

Finally, four big, plastic bins stuffed with random LM crap.

Yes, I actually used to have that framed Cosette ad hanging on my wall.

Told you I was a pig. XD
Fantine

That looks rather painful, how it is all just thrown together Wink
But impressive collection nonetheless.
Quique

It's sorta painful for me too, hehe. I've been meaning to neatly sort out all that stuff, but it would probably take me 345484854 years to do it. It definitely is a huge hassle having to pull out those big bins and rummage through all that stuff just to find something I need, grrr.
Set_Buildin_Dad

^ WOW, now that's what I call an obsession.
Timmy_Wishes he was Quast

Quique i'll help you sort it out...we need ring binders and plastic sleeves...i love organising and cataloging...(how sad am i!).
lesmisloony

Crazy/amazing. This, Quique, is why we love you so.
Quique

Hehehehehe. I'm sure TVAW has as much LM junk, only hers are probably organized and in better condition. Mr. Green

I had to remove the staples and covers from those souvenir brochures in order to have them scanned for the above collage at Kinkos back in the day, as they did not allow copyrighted material, haha. But I have them stuffed in one of those boxes, probably all bent and torn by now. d'oh!

And everybody hates my beloved collage! I used to hang it in the living room, but everyone I've lived with over the years thought it was an eyesore, lol. Now I just hang it in my bedroom.

I'd hire you and Fantine to do it for me, but alas, you two are on the other side of the globe, lol.

I used to be much more organized, but I started neglecting my stuff during the late 90's, about the time my fanaticism took a nosedive. I used to have everything neatly sorted in file folders and photo albums.
phantomo88

Does anyone have a pic of Rohan Tickell as Enjoras/Javert/Valjean in the 1st aussie tour?
bigR

well, I don't have any shirts or collages and just one edition of the book, so I'll revert to far less interesting backstage pics.
from the madrid production:

Gavroche (don't know his name) getting ready before the show:

young ponine, gavroche and, sitting, Gema Castao-Fantine while putting on her blond wig (you can also see Miguel del Arco: Javert, on the mirror)
bigR

I know the pics are big, but I have no idea how to make them smaller

This was Eponine's 2nd understudy. It was her first day as ponine and she was really really nervous. her name, I think is Kirby Navarro, but I might be wrong.

Here, Carlos Marn (Il Divo) who played Marius.
Quique

Great pics! Did you take those yourself?
bigR

Yes. It was for a school assignment. Kind of like EponineMNFF collage, but much better. Very Happy
Me and a friend of mine ended up hanging backstage with the cast for several days:-)
Quique

Lucky! How many times did you end up seeing the Madrid production?

The Spanish production has always intrigued me (even though I dislike the translation). It had a funky-looking barricade, hehe. Too bad the show has not gone back over there. At least it had a nice, long run.
bigR

5 times.
and yes, the madrid translation is one of the worst things I've heard in my life. it makes you scream in horror and laugh all the time!
(+ I work as a translator, so I am specially sensitive about this kind of things).
but the cast was so passionate and had such incredible strengh, they made you forget about it.

I don't know why the show never came back since we always have several musicals running at the same time. I guess it was such a big success that producers are scare it wont work the same way again, but I don't really know.
Orestes Fasting

Haha, I guess I'm lucky then in which languages I understand--because the French lyrics to LM are amazing, and the German ones are generally mediocre with only occasional detours towards "OH MY GOD WHYYY."
lesmisloony

I adore the French lyrics. Sometimes more than the English.

...that's all.
bigR

I know very little german. Actually I'm trying to teach myself some more with Les Mis lyrics (maybe this should go in the "obssesions thread"?). But my level is so poor that I'm not able to notice the mediocrity of the translation. Only once in a long while I get to understand a whole sentence and just this makes me all jumpy and happy!

About the barricades, yes, there were a lot of problems with them, since the producers did not realize until quite late that the space besides the stage was too narrow and the barricades did not fit when they had to be hidden. There were a lots of problems but finally they designed a system that made the barricades bend over themselves while hidden and at the same time allowed them to be bigger than normal. So the production ended up with the biggest barricade in LM history, but that was cool!

I'm trying to post more pics, but my computer is awfully slow since yesterday and it takes ages to upload them.

Here, Enrique R. del Portal (Enjolras) showing proudly his long hair that had just been cutted by the hairdresser. He disliked a lot his enjolras wig and after nearly 2 years in the show he had grown really long hair to avoid wearing it.

Sounds like me with the Dutch lyrics--I've heard they're really bad, but since I can only make out a phrase here or a word there, I can't tell.

The German ones aren't awful, and IDAD and Come to Me are actually quite pretty. (And the German productions usually have really good Fantines, so that works well.) But I feel sorry for the actors who've played Marius... AHFOL, ALFOR, Empty Chairs, and Every Day all have rather groan-worthy translations.
Quique

I read about that in the production brochure and have tried imagining how it might've been automated. I wish there was video of the barricade forming. Very interesting.

I understand bits and pieces of the French lyrics, but not enough to claim I know what's being sung. I'm completely lost when it comes to all other languages. Though I like the sound of German...I've memorized most of those lyrics and enjoy singing those brutal, guttural sounds, haha.
EponineMNFF

I am so jealous of those pictures. Your school project pwned mine into the ground. Hahaha.
Quique

Found this supercool online album of pics from the London production...

http://picasaweb.google.com/alban.bytyqi/ImagesFromThePlayLesMiserables

I think the way they slightly shrunk the set to fit the Queens is sooo cute! lol. It's most noticeable in the surrounding set and the barricade/Paris scenes.
lesmisloony

Squee! Twee barricade and city!

*saves half those pictures*
Fantine

This is my favorite Fantine picture:

Some gif's I made:

And another:

Aww, Fantine, those are precious! I like the little Vest...

Your signature reminded me of the Fantine icon I made:

Hello I'm new to MdN and thought I would contribute by posting a picture. Sorry in advance if it has already been posted.

Frances Ruffelle and Michael Maguire after winning their Tony Awards:

^Haven't seen that one yet. It's great!
Fantine

Frances has a gorgeous smile.

(whereas Mike has chest hair).
bigR

Performing a little bit of thread necromancy.
First because I've come accross this pic (I believe it's from the 2003-04 West End cast) and I love that Joly:
bigR

And second (new post because he deserves it), because although some of you probably already knew him I've recently discovered Jeanniot and I am totally in love with his illustrations of the brick.
I don't think there is anything from him posted in this thread yet, so here are a few pics:

Valjean at the bishop's:

Cosette and the doll:

Marius, Courfeyrac and the clothes dealer:
lesmisloony

bigR, those are AMAZING! I saved them all. Because I love Book illustrations madly.
bigR

A few more Jeanniots then:

these are all Marius. You know I don't exactly love the character but this guy draws him wonderfully.
My only complaint is the tiny belle poque moustache he makes him wear. It's so not 1820's! But Jeanniot did these drawings by the end of the 19th century, when moustaches were a must, and it seems that he couldn't imagine a handsome young man without them...

Marius meets Bossuet:

Marius and his loaf of bread:

Marius and his landlady:

Marius at the Luxembourg:

Marius parading in front of Cosette:

Marius and the invalide:

Marius and the man in worker's clothes and cap:
Fantine

He's really handsome!
(When I imagine him without the moustache, that is Wink)
lesmisloony

Love! I adore Brick illustrations in general, but these are just so fab!
EponineBarker

I love the picture of Marius parading in front of Cosette. The look on Cosette's face amuses me for some reason...
lizavert

Great pictures bigR! *saves them*

Where did you find them?
Bramblefox

Got a couple of pics from a Canadian production of Les Miserables--see it here: http://www.lesmiserables.ca/ I don't think this has been posted here...has it?

Oh well. Here goes. The Marius in the first pic is Carl Poliquin, Grantaire is Jean-Francois Poulin.

And a pic of Javert that I really like. The guy playing him is Alexandre de Grandpre.

Mistress

The Quebec production...I LOVE the knew costumes for this show....and I want Javert's hat...
bigR

Quebec costumes:
-I hate grantaire's so-out-of-place worker's hat.
-I think that they should have get ridden of enjolras' red vest
- I adore everything else
Catherine

Current London cast pics! (well, its mostly Drew, coz I got the pics off his forum, but its better than nothing!)

Drew n Earl

I think this is Who Am I?

No more bourgeois when you scratch him...
I think that's George Miller, Keith Anthony Higham, Simon Shorten and Drew, natch.

I didn't see you there, forgive me..
Jon Robyns, Nancy Sullivan, Leanne Dobinson and Drew

Drew and Leanne

One Day More

Another One Day More. David Thaxton as Enjolras.

Jon, Nancy, Drew, Leanne and Allyson Brown

Epilogue!Drew with the candlesticks.
Vanessa20

I don't know if it's the beard, improved makeup or what, but Drew looks twice the age he did when I saw him in New York last year. He actually looks like a Valjean now. Smile
lesmisloony

Wait a minute! Catherine! Do you like Drew Sarich?

Do you like Claquesous??

DO YOU LIKE SERIES ONE OF THE MIGHTY BOOSH???

...seriously, though, those pictures are really, really good!

Yeah, I saw it last Sunday and the workers' caps mystified me, because everything else in the costumes was perfect. Cosette's pink damask 1830s-style dress was gorgeous, but it's not that hard to copy a fashion plate--what really impressed me were the grubby 1820s outfits in the Thnardiers' inn, Eponine's matted homeless-chick hair, and the convicts' red shirts. If you're going to put that much work into accurate costumes, why screw it all up and give the students workers' hats?

...however, I'm willing to give them a free pass in Grantaire's case, because how many productions have him macking on Louison during Red and Black?
bigR

I envy you SO much, Orestes. Are you planning on writing a review? *puppy eyes*

I'll post my review when I finish it, which will probably be in the next week but I can't make promises. Silly schoolwork, distracting me from my Les Mis.

It was fantastic, though.

LOL Are you sure they weren't just pulling your leg? I feel like that wouldn't fit in with the rest of the costumes at all.

Oh, I understand it and I like it in the replica productions. It's iconic, and it gives so much strenght to his presence (specially his appearence in One Day More).
Replica productions should keep the vest, imo, but since there is no canon rason behind it and Qubec had redesigned the whole wardrobe I though they would do something about it too.
The Very Angry Woman

Bumping this up after quite a while since I'm at my parents' for the weekend, and dug up some old stuff I had stashed away. Sorry if any have been posted before.

This is from National Geographic, September 1990. I read somewhere else that this is Eden Riegel, although the cutline doesn't specify. (The Cats reference pertains to a photo above it.)

These are from the November 1990 playbill (well, Performing Arts magazine) for the San Francisco production.

Quique

Is that from the original San Francisco production? Those are wonderful, thank you so much!

I recall being very impressed by a YouTube performance of Kelly Ground as Dot in what looked like a concert performance of Sunday In the Park With George and had wanted to see something from her run in Les Mis. That pic is awesome! There's nothing like stuff from early productions.
Applause
Moci

There's something that I love about seeing some of the earlier productions' black and white photos. There's something quite atmospheric about them.
Quique

The very early black & white production photos seemed to capture the actual look of the show better than color ones of the time. I guess cause the color ones back then had this distracting graininess to them.

I just went through this whole thread for the first time since I last posted in 2008, and was rather appalled at how it totally looks like I'm showing off my collection! At least, that's the sense I got, even though that wasn't at all my intention at the time. I'm just over-enthusiastic for my own good and love to share, hehe!

It also made me sad; it made me miss the show and love the original production soooo much. I even teared-up a few times, wahhh!

Well, you just happen to have one thing that I haven't got and REALLY want--the Mexican souvenir brochure!!! Cool!

I've always wanted to see what pictures are in it but those things are rare. I saw one on sale on ebay once but it was gone before I could even bid on it. =(
santsprz

Quique, maybe I can take some photos of the brochure and post them here, but I can't do it right now because I'm on vacation, when I return I'll take them
Quique

Thank you! That would be awesome.
Orestes Fasting

Someone (probably Quique or bigR) once sent me scans of a flyer for the Madrid production.

Full image (huge!)
Quique

It was BigR. I posted scans from the Madrid souvenir brochure which included that picture as well. Yours is a much better scan though. I love the Spanish barricade! I much prefer the way it comes out over the standard version.

^ Ooooh. Thank you so much for taking the time to share! Some of those I've seen but others are new, like that fabulous finale photo--gorgeous!

There aren't many pics of Fazio as Valjean and it's nice to see it's him in that chain gang photo. And that sewers shot is great.

Thanks again. Smile
