Yes, and he was completely hysterical. His mom and Frasier's dad pretended to be dating to mess with their respective sons' minds.

YESYESYES. Such a great episode. Okay. Cam Winston is Javert ... awesome. Applause
lesmisloony

Soprano, have I ever told you how much I love you?

...and have I seen that episode of Frasier? Uhhh... can't remember...

*not quite thrilled with any casting yet*

Are we still planning a giant MdNer theatre-swamping?

This casting is made of fail.

Brian Stokes Mitchell and Aaron Lazar cancels out anything bad about the cast, imo. Both of them are the kind of guys that are good in every show they do. I've said a lot in the other thread that Brian Stokes Mitchell should play Javert, so I'm really excited to see both.

Eh, I mean, I know Aaron Lazar and ( Rolling Eyes ) Rosie O'Donnell... and I've heard of Brian Stokes Mitchell, I just don't know anything about him...

Except that he was on Frasier once...

Other than that, I'm blank.
Trevor reincarnate

He was "Trevor" on Fresh Prince of Bel Air too.
windbelle

Holy cow! I said in the "who would you like to see play" thread that I'd kill to see BSM as Javert, and now I'd like to kill someone coz I don't think I'll manage to see it. Holy news though! The cast looks exciting.

Look for him on YouTube. He's been in many wonderful things. He was the original Coalhouse in Ragtime, he played Don Quixote in the revival of Man of La Mancha, and he played Emil De'Beque in the concert version of South Pacific. He is a good actor with a wonderful voice. He will make a great Javert.
lesmisloony

Haha, I found this one video of him singing "The Impossible Dream" and decided about :45 in that his voice is excellent.

Okay, on board with BSM in a big way.

Now. Will someone please make me less irritated with the casting of Rosie O'Donnell?

I'm rather iffy on that one too. I searched for any of her YouTube vocal performances and found a clip of her playing Miss Hannigan in Annie. That's close to the same vocal style she'd need for Mdme T. It wasn't pretty.

Quique

I asked my twin sis this morning just how sick she is of Les Mis, and she just sighed, lol!!

I asked her cause I wanted to know if she'd be interested in attending the concert with me, and she said she would. Cool.

Her eyes bugged out of their sockets when I told her Rosie is to play Mme. T. lol.
Fantine

I think that it's okay that Lea doesn't want to do it. She's been in something like that already. Give other people a chance? We don't really want a TAC revival.

(Although I must say that I wouldn't mind that!)
Orestes Fasting

Jesus God, I can't leave the internet for two days without something like this coming out.

Aaron Lazar as Enjolras again? I now have an excuse to go to this concert.
Quique

^ I freaked when I saw he was cast. While I enjoyed Max back in July, Lazar is so perfect for the role!
Trevor reincarnate

Lazar was the hearbeat of the original revival cast.
kitty17794

Wow...what a casting. I kinda laughed when I saw it, how they are trying to use the current 'big names', like Lea Michele from Spring Awakening and Rosie, of all people. Just...wow.
Monsieur D'Arque

Has the Mr. T been announced yet?

nathanlanenathanlanenathanlanenathanlane... just mumbling, sorry.
lesmisloony

Haha, I originally read that as asking whether or not "Mr T" would be in the show and I was all "... Shocked"

As Javert, chasing Valjean and crying, "Be cool! Be good, y'all! I pity da fool!"
Trevor reincarnate

"Goodnight, Valjean. And godspeed!"
Quique

According to Wayne, tix have apparently gone on sale now! Shocked

I was expecting them to start selling in May. I don't have the $$$ right now! Well, I do, but my finances are going to be quite tight this month. It would have been easier for me if they'd go on sale in May.
Quique

OK, now I'm confused (I'm going to wring Wayne's neck, lol).

I just went to their site and it seems they are only selling subscription right now. I see no single tix info. I'll call them later on today to confirm when single tix go onsale. One thing for sure, I'm getting garden box seats.

You can see all ticket prices here:

http://www.hollywoodbowl.com/tickets/performance_detail.cfm?id=3534
mastachen

Single tickets go on sale May 6th, according to a website I found, but the brochure that they sent me with the subscription package said it was May 10th, so I don't know.

I really want to subscribe to the 5 concert plan, but my family's going to be gone all summer. I don't really feel like going to 5 concerts by myself. :/

J. Mark McVey, huh? Eenteresting.
The Very Angry Woman

None of that casting info is new.

And apparently not knowing who anybody else is, right?

"*but doesn't really know any of the performers anyway, so whatevs*"
mastachen

Was J. Mark Mcvey a good Valjean back in the day? He's the only performer so far that I haven't seen/heard, other than Melora Hardin. I'm a big Office fan though, so I'm very excited about that.

My mom on Lea Michele: "Why did she only sign your playbill and not the others? That's kind of rude, isn't it? She's not that pretty."
The Very Angry Woman

mastachen wrote:

You can also check out his site here: http://www.jmarkmcvey.com/

He has a fairly good reputation in the fandom, IMO.
mastachen

With the wig and beard, he bears a resemblance to JOJ. His website has him singing. It's decent.
lesmisloony

JMM... based on his Soliloquy and BHH, he seems pretty average. He's REALLY strong at "Take and eye for an eye..." Sounds like he has a wonderful upper register overall. And the BHH is lovely, but average-ly lovely. He gets really loud on high notes and sort of fades out the rest of the time. All in all, though, he sounds great to me.

RE: My sad, sad knowledge of the cast, I knew Eponine was some girl from Spring Awakening, Aaron Lazar was back, and Rosie O'Donnell ( Rolling Eyes ) was involved. And, of course, Camm WINN-STONNN! was Javert. But JMM just kind of slipped through my mind.
The Very Angry Woman

I think it's funny (not in an insulting or patronizing way, I swear) how so many people just know Lea Michele from Spring Awakening. I always knew her as "That Young Cosette on Sally Jessy Raphael" and "The Little Girl from Ragtime."
mastachen

I was watching the Ragtime documentary that Quique posted onto Youtube. She was so cute in it. Sad how she turned out... (personality-wise. Her career is going quite well)

Same.

I saw JMM as Valjean on Broadway once back in the early 2000's and absolutely loved him.
lesmisloony

Being sadly out of the "Broadway loop," I really don't know anyone but the basics and some folks who have been in LM. I only knew she was in SA because someone mentioned it...

Is she really such a b i t c h?
The Very Angry Woman

If you believe BroadwaySecrets.
mastachen

I, as well as a couple of other people on this forum, have shared numerous bad experiences meeting/working with her.

Ariel on meeting her backstage: http://www.musicals.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=59206&view=previous

Jazzy on meeting her at the Drama Desk Awards. Later on, Deester tells another stage door story:
http://musicals.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=61310&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
Quique

Some people just aren't big on small talk and are rather shy, as well. I'm sort of like that. I've been told that I come off as kind of stand-offish and distant sometimes, but in reality, I'm either shy or just not very talkative. Maybe Lea is the same way? Who knows.
mastachen

Shy and distant might equal not talking as much or not looking the fans in the eye. It's fine with me when they're shy and distant. It's not fine with me when someone completely ignores fans who nicely ask for her autograph as she walks out of the stagedoor without so much of a "Sorry, I'm busy/tired."

I don't know. Maybe I'm just determined to hate her. lol
mastachen

http://www.broadway.com/Gen/Buzz_Video.aspx?ci=563475

Somewhere in the middle of the video is a cut of Lea Michele singing the last part of On My Own at her concert two weeks ago. I have to admit, except for it being shouty near the end, it's pretty good.
Quique

She's great. I'm so looking forward to her Eponine at the Hollywood Bowl.
The Very Angry Woman

Um.

With the exception of John Lloyd Young, none of the names are familiar to me. However, if Michele Maika was old enough to play Eponine back in the second national tour, then she must be old, which is a little disappointing.

I am surprised at the age disparity, even though it's a concert.
curlyhairedsoprano91

Hmm. Weird.

At least Cosette is actually much prettier than Eponine here.

But Javert is probably prettier than everybody.

...At any rate, it will be interesting to hear how this comes out.

McCormick as Thernadier! WONDERFUL! I would never have thought of that, but I think he will be stunning!

Aaron Lazar withdraws from Hollywood Bowl Les Mis due to a scheduling conflict. A replacement will be announced "shortly".

I still want to. Pretty badly. But I'm not sure it's worth a cross-country trip anymore.

I'll have to think about it now.

I'm pretty upset about it, too. *Sniff*

They'll probably grab Kevin Early, as TVAW predicted a few months back, lol.

Kind of disappointed at the news, but still expecting to see who will replace Aaron.

I love Kevin Earley's voice. And it seems now a bunch of former Marius' and Enjolras' will try to upgrade themselves to Valjean in some regional production. Rolling Eyes

Nope. I wasn't saying it's a bad thing at all. Just an interesting thing, to see suddenly a few former ABC alumni all going to star as Valjean in some regional productions this summer.

Thanks trevor.

I still have to figure out my kid's summer schedule before I buy tickets to this. have we figured out what day the majority of the MdN throng is going yet?
Trevor reincarnate

I'm probably going opening night. But I don't know for sure.
I think I'm just going to go whichever night has the best seats available.
mastachen

^Me too. I'm trying to go either Friday or Saturday, because I have an 8am class on Monday, so the Sunday performance does not seem like such a good idea.
EponineMNFF

I'm going Friday the 8th! SO EXCITED!

We should like have a designated place to meet or something. That'd be so fun. Very Happy
mastachen

Tickets are on sale... in an hour and a half!
Quique

Anyone else having trouble getting the best seats? Maybe they're sold out? The best I could find are the awful K3 section way to the side, grrr.
mastachen

Is there any way to call the Hollywood Bowl? Their website has been down. I don't know what sounds better. Section J or Section E...
Quique

Arghhh! I don't like these seats! K3?! Those are too far. Grrrr, I say. GRRRRR!!! Evil or Very Mad
mastachen

I think our best bet is to go down to the Hollywood Bowl box office to get the tickets there. I have no way of getting down there though.
Quique

No, I just called and those are the absolute best available at the time. I'll probably buy them and then look on Craigslist or ebay for better ones, then sell these.
Quique

I got a pair of bench seats (blech) for Sunday the 10th, section K3, row 10, seats 10 and 11.

I'll be searching for better seats, but if I don't find any, then I'll have to stick with these. I just hate it that they're way to the side. Oh well.
mastachen

I got a seat in section H row 4 seat 107 for Friday + a Hollywood Bowl Park and Ride from Westwood. I have no idea how that works. I think I'll also be searching for better seats too.
Quique

How on earth did you get section H? That's right smack in the center. I wish I got those seats!

I woke up at 10:24 and didn't get to check for tix at least 30 min. after they went on sale. Maybe that's why?

Did you buy yours right when they went on sale at 10?
mastachen

I didn't find those seats until like.. 11. I was getting annoyed when the best available seats for Friday and Saturday for one ticket were to the side, so I specifically chose the section behind the terrace boxes and I managed to get section H. I'd rather sit there than in section D or E or wherever it placed me earlier. It probably also helped that I only bought one ticket.
Quique

I tried one ticket as well, and it gave me section E. But the sis wants to go, so that was a no go.

I wanted to go opening night, but the best seats for that performance were two way, way to the side in section K3. The ones I got are nearer the aisle next to K2.
Trevor reincarnate

Seat location: section SEC M2, row 22, seats 119-116

Are those shitty? they're the ones I got.
mastachen

Seating chart w/ a view of the stage from your seats: http://www.hollywoodbowl.com/tickets/seating_chart.cfm
Quique

That's not too bad, considering what's available. And yours are also closer to the center.

But now that I think about it, this is only a concert. So sitting to the side isn't such a big deal, I guess. I just wish I could've gotten closer seats. I want the orchestra and actors right there in my face, hehe.
Trevor reincarnate

Are my seats like 90 miles away from the stage?
