School Edition Surprise

You know, I had always heard warnings about school editions of shows, and have always made an effort to stay far, far away from them, but I went to see the school version of Les Mis a few days ago, and to my surprise it was very, very good. Strangely condensed in some parts, but i figure that's the only way to go when you're cutting it down, right?

So why exactly are they always slammed? Granted, they're like a mini version of the show, so maybe it's just because they don't stay true to the original? ...Thoughts?

The quality of SE productions varies quite a bit. You were lucky to get a good one, I suppose.

What exactly do they cut in the school edition anyway?
Sister Robert Anne

I know the SE omits most of the confrontation at Fantine's bedside (ie. the bit where Valjean and Javert are singing over each other) and a verse of Stars, not sure about the rest.

A while ago, someone posted all of the omitted words and verses, word by word. It was put into a sticky, but it seems to have gone when they redid the site.

Yeah, I was really ticked off when they cut the Confrontation from my school edition.

The reason why SEs get torn apart most of the time is because of the quality of the singers (in my experience).

They always cast the wrong vocal roles (like ValJean being a baritone because they don't have any tenors). The production is usually bad, too.

And than there's all of the cuts...

You're lucky to have seen a good one.
