Taking the vocals out of a music track (HELP!)

Hey everyone! Long time no see. =) I'm in need of some help

A lot of people on here are sound/music technical wizards, so I figured you all would be good to ask. I'm attempting to take a music track (with singing and a backtrack) and get rid of as much of the vocals as possible (but leave behind the backtracking).

If anyone knows of a particular program that can do this, that would be awesome. Any other useful tips would be great! Thanks for the help!

I use Magix Music Maker... But it really depends on the track whether it works or not. Usually you are left with only a small echo. But the older the recorded, the harder it becomes.

Quique can help you with this. PM (email) him, you might get a reaction sooner.

How do you rip the track with Magix? I can't get it to work. It seems to be just a music making program. Confused

I use Adobe Audition. It works fairly well, there is so much you can use it for, too! I use it to get rid of vocals, adjust tempi, pitches, record stuff, add effects, the list goes on...

You can do endless stuff with the original music... that's the only thing I use it for, really!
As for ripping the track... I have the track I wish to de-vocalize on my computer so I select the map and then move it to the bars... Then you can add all sorts of effects... such as the "karaoke" mode.

I know that wasn't much of a help, I can't really explain it well. I could do it with screenshots if you can't figure it out.

Try Audacity. It's free and available for both Windows and Mac OSX.

Once downloaded and installed, you can follow this very simple tutorial on how to remove vocals from stereo tracks...

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=editing&i=remove-vocals

Hope this helps.

Let me know how it turns out. If you have problems, I'd be glad to help. =)

Thanks! I didn't know Audacity could do that! Very Happy

Hmmmmmmmm, at the moment I'm just using this rubbishy Wavepad that came with the computer.... I think. It just kind of appeared. All I use it for is clearing up bootlegs. But it keeps going wrong and it reeeeeaaaaaally doesn't like Diana Kaarina (almost as much as I don't like her). Whenever I try to put her On My Own onto my MP3 player, it makes it about 70% lower pitch than normal. Heh, it's actually quite smart come to think of it. It makes it sound almost like a normal voice! Wink

Can you help me?

Was it a RealPlayer track? I don't think Audacity can support them. Trust me I tried.

WAV and mp3 files work really well. Especially my Rent OBC songs.

It was an itunes file
