tracking?

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what parts, if any, of Les Mis are tracked [as in vocals]?

I read once that Eponine's scream is often recorded.

I saw the US tour last night, and it didn't sound as if it were tracked...

Although, when Cosette first entered, here mic wasn't working, and we could hear the sound man behind us banging, rather loudly, on the mic receiver... poor guy.

As far as I know, the scream on the US tour has never been pre-recorded. It has on the UK tour, though.

Funny, the bit with the mic not being on during "In My Life" happened when I saw it on 11 January as well. Leslie caught it quite well, though--she projects nicely, even without a mic.

That's a really interesting question. I think the scream can be one of the most unintentionally funny moments in the show, some of the CDs are very funny. I'll be interested to know if anyone has the answer to this.

I myself thought the London show [which is all I heve ever seen live] is not prerecorded but wait to see.

Which part is Eponine's scream again?

Attack on Rue Plumet

Oh, yeah, of course. I was thinking in "The Robbery", when she 'screams' "It's Javeeeeeeeeeeeert!!". But I suppose it isn't much of a 'scream' per say.

Oh, man, her scream drives me nuts. She does so well singing, but her scream is just horrendous.

I know that the "loud hailer" is on the actor who plays Brujon's track. I don't think it is recorded though, I believe the actor has to run back on stage quickly afterwards.

Melissa Lyons's scream sucked on the U.S. tour. To emulate it, read the word "Aaaaaaah" aloud, in your normal tone of voice, putting no expression into it.

I'm not sure why she's doing that now. It's really underwhelming. When I saw her as an understudy, she did the full-out scream, and it was similar to Lea Salonga's in the TAC.

You're 100% correct.

Entirely true on most occasions. I did see one performance where they were low on swings, and David Barrus had to play both Brujon and Combeferre.

This didn't cause a problem until Act 2, but the loudhailer was definitely Barrus. (Intermission had been suspiciously long, and I'm pretty sure he was recording the loudhailer lines at the time.) This resulted in a fun couple of minutes wherein Barrus was singing to himself offstage while still on the barricade as Combeferre.

The only pre-record sound as far as i know that has ever been used in ANY UK version of the show is actually Lea Solonga's in the TAC so sorry to disappoint you. YES it is her but it is pre-recorded.

Although i believe the SE issues the scream on its sndfx disk. Our Eponine (god bless her) insisted that it be her that scream. She spat in my face one night doing it...a good gob too...urgh!!!

Good. The SE scream sucks.

Kaho Shimada's scream is just weird to me.

Regardless, Stephanie Martin is the queen of weird Plumet screams.
