Understudies

Thought we could have a thread where we can post dates understudies are due to go on!

Tonight Friday 21st August:
Helen Owen will be on as Eponine (as Nancy is unwell according to her Twitter)

Yes, but not everyone knows that site plus London is not the only place is playing. Regional understudies could be posted too.

No, not everyone knows of the site, but more do now that I've posted a link. Also, you didn't specify a venue in your initial post, and you didn't specify this thread was a general understudies thread. If people didn't know who Helen Owen or Nancy was, they wouldn't know which venue you were referring to.
Eppie-Sue

Well, I think this thread is a great idea, and I like the idea that it can be extended to different productions, too. Of course the current London production is the most prominent one, that might explain the "Helen Owen" and "Nancy" in the inital post.
Oh, and I'm not sure WestEndUnderstudies is always up to date, and maybe we can get earlier infos than they do through stagedooring or something. So it's definitely helpful.

ETA: and I'm nor sure Helen Owen was on tonight, actually, seeing as I think I read that she went on holiday yesterday ... not sure, though. which would mean Daniella Gibb was on. All three Eponines in one week then?

it's a great site but not very up-to-date. this board seems to know holiday dates before westendunderstudies and not all absences are posted (last night I saw Ave Q, for example, and Julie Atherton was away but no mention on the site - despite the fact I think she has been ill for a while)
Eppie-Sue

I thought I'd resurrect this thread:

Next Monday, 14th September, might be the last chance (for now) to see Simon Shorten as Valjean.

From 28th September to 3rd of October, Helen Owen will be on as Eponine and Mark Dugdale will be on as Enjolras.
(if they're not off sick. In that case it would be Daniella Gibb and Killian Donnely.)

Aaaand Antony Hansen will be on as Marius some time in November... no exact dates yet.

Ooh! I would love to see Killian!Enjolras. I'm still so dissappointed I missed him as JvJ. Has anyone told Killian of his "super-swing" status on the forum? I never seem to see him at the stage door!
Eppie-Sue

I only told him I liked his performance once Very Happy ... but uh, Katie Hall was 100% sure that Killian was never on as JVJ. I have no idea what that was all about...!? I would love to see his Enjolras, too, but that would mean that either Mark or David is off sick, which ah, I wouldn't like to see. But still.

In understudy news - Natalie Day will be on as Fantine the whole week.

I wanted to on Monday, but he ran away! Hopefully on Saturday/next Wednesday I'll be able to. Very Happy I've only seen it once without him on, and I'm almost certain he's done at least one thing different each time. More than Enjolras, I'd love to see his Javert! Smile
aquirkofmatter

Jeff's on as Javert tonight! Very Happy

I thought you might be!!!
Eppie-Sue

Okay, so, I am, indeed, going tonight. I just spent 20 quid on that stupid "back of the Stalls" ticket. D: But I really need something to distract me this evening and I think Jeff!Javert might do just that. I've seen Earl!Javert nine times now, and I ... I blatantly can't wait to see someone else.
That said, I will still cry a bit if David is off.

V14. Restricted view. Like, a lot. Good lord, what am I DOING!? And man I need that student ID for discount on goooood tickets right before the show.

ETA:
Haaha. Guess what. I'll have Antony!Marius, guys. WIN.
flying_pigs

:O
Antony AND Jeff AND Natalie!

Again I am very jealous! But I will be at Billy Elliot tonight so it's not all bad! Have a good time!
Eppie-Sue

This is, admittedly, a bit short notice, but today, Simon is on as JVJ (again!) and Greg is on as Thenardier (which means I'll be seeing that part covered for the first time! whoo).
Eppie-Sue

sorry, for the double post - apparently, those are the next Mark!Enjolras dates (or, at least, the ones when David is on holiday)...

28 September - 3 October
26 - 28 November
4 - 6 January
22 - 24 February
15 - 20 March
1 - 3 April
10 - 12 May
Eponines_Hat

*bump*
Very Happy
Does anyone know when Jeff is next on as Javert???
l'ivrogne transfigur

And anyone know any definite Jonathan JVJ dates? Mentioned this in the London Cast Change thread already
Eppie-Sue

26th, 27th and 28th of November Smile there has been some speculation that it might be Killian, but Jeff confirmed it on his website.
So those days it's
Jeff!Javert
Mark!Enjolras
Natalie!Fantine
aaand, supposedly
George!Grantaire

Oh! I've never seen Markjolras either. Thanks for the dates! I'll be calling the box office tomorrow
l'ivrogne transfigur

Jonathan's on as JVJ on Thursday 17th December, and both shows on Wednesday 30th December.
flying_pigs

Soooooo tempted to go on 30th December!

oooh, someone is excited Very Happy !

(me too, me too, btw.) Nataliefantine and Jefftaire yay.

Very Happy I have one for next Thursday - can't afford Jefftaire and Jeffert, so I've chosen the latter for the understudy madness that's going on.
Lauraa

^ Do you think there will still be BB tickets left for one of the understudy days? How late can you usually book them?
aquirkofmatter

If you want more than one it's best to buy them in advance, but they do sometimes have single tickets (and occassionally more) available on the day. There's no fixed pattern to it though - just luck.
Eppie-Sue

Well, turns out that right now you've also got some good chances for understudy madness...

Normally, a BB ticket for one of the 26th-28th days shouldn't be a problem... I mean, for this Friday almost all BB tickets are still available. And if they're all booked there are also four 20 seats in the Dress Circle slips which I love very much.

Actually, it's not Natalie!Fantine anymore Sad

Oooh, I am going to BEG one of my friends to come with me (which means I will probably have to pay for half of their ticket but never mind - I am determined to convert at least one of them into liking Les Mis Very Happy )

Mark is not on as Enjolras then I'm afraid, there has been a mix up of holiday dates apparently.
Eppie-Sue

Oh really?! Is that certain...? And does that mean that David's scheduled holidays are right now...?

Yes, Mark is on for Enjolras (last night obviously), tonight and tomorrow. Instead of next week.

Next Thurs-Sat's understudy madness isn't looking quite so mad anymore...

No, which is a shame! It would have been an amazing show!
(although it's Les Mis, so it will still be an amazing show of course Wink)

I'm hoping we're right in assuming that George!Grantaire will be on. I saw him about a year ago and he was brilliant.

David, I assume. Smile

He was going to be off for 3 days next week, so I think those 3 days are now yesterday, today and tomorrow instead.

But I'm still slightly confused to be honest...Confused

Oh PLEEEEEASE let him be on! I booked by tickets weeks ago to see Davidjolras play next to Jefftaire and I will be soooooo upset if they are not on together

Sad

Not that Mark isn't lovely, I just heard good things about DT/Jeff combo.
Eppie-Sue

Well, the Davidjolras and Jefftaire combo is, uuh... a bit more... subtext-loving. SLASHY DRINK WITH ME FTW.

I wouldn't worry too much : ) I'm pretty sure he will be on, it does sound like there has been some ... miscommunication and he's off three days this week and not three days next week.
Elbow

Edit: Oh wait, I was being special, I didn't see that there was another page.
flying_pigs

Apparently Helen is on as Eponine tonight, according to her Twitter!

Eppie-Sue just text me from the theatre and Jonathan is on for Valjean, Sophie for Fantine and AJ for Cosette. And Helen as Eponine! Madness!
