US national tours

Okay, I'm confused. Laughing According to the official site, there have been three US tours of Les Mis--creatively named the 1st national company (November 1987 - September 1991), the 2nd national company (May 1988 - January 1991), and the 3rd national company (November 1988 - July 2006). I've also heard the 3nt referred to as the Marius tour, and I've heard people talk about the Bus & Truck. Is the Bus & Truck the same as the 3nt?

And--this is what I really want to know--is there a record of which tours were playing which cities at particular dates from 1988-1991?
The Very Angry Woman

Yes, the bus and truck was the Marius company.

The 2nd national company only went to San Francisco and Los Angeles.

The first two were called Valjean and Fantine, although I'm not sure which was which.
Quique

I thought the 2nd national tour was called the Cosette tour and the 1st the Fantine tour? Confused

I copied and pasted this and saved it onto a text file directly from the former official Les Mis website years ago. Try looking around archive.org - they just might have that page preserved in their archives.

Cool!!! Archive.org does have a record of ALL productions up to mid-2004! Check it out. Though the old Les Mis site got some of the dates wrong. I've fixed the inaccuracies in the above list.

Does anyone have details of the 3 Original Tour casts? Did i read somewhere that Garry Morris was the ValJean on the 1st National tour?
Quique

Yes, he was. I saw him as Valjean in the 1st national tour. But I don't think he was the original 1st national tour Valjean.

I know Craig Schulman played Valjean in the first 1st national tour engagement in Chicago. Hollis Resnik (Fantine) was also a part of that cast.

I saw most of the original 2nd national tour cast in L.A...

Valjean - William Solo
Javert - Jeff McCarthy
Fantine - Elinore O'Connell
Mme. T - Kay Cole
Thenardier - Gary Beach
Eponine - Michelle Nicastro
Enjolras - Raymond Saar
Marius - Reece Holland
Cosette - Karen Fineman

I'm not sure who was in the original 3rd national tour cast. I think the Fantine was named Kelly...something...can't remember.
The Very Angry Woman

Kelly Ground?
Quique

^ Yep.
SmallTownIngenue

who played Young Cosette in the 2nd national tour in LA?

I believe the third tour featured

Ivan Ruthenford as Valjean

Sutton Foster as Eponine

Kevin Early as Enjolras

and Ricky Martin as Marius

Please tell me if I'm on the right track.
Quique

Ricky Martin was never part of the 3rd NT. Only Broadway.

Yes, the 3rd NT featured the rest of those performers, but they weren't part of the original 3rd NT cast, which first performed at the Tampa Bay PAC in November, 1987.

Sutton, Ivan, Kevin were in the show during the late 90's-early 00's.

Ivan had been with the 3rd NT on and off since the mid-90's.
Jekkienumber24601

could have sworn I saw a video of Kevin, Sutton, and Ricky together. I think Kevin Early was only Enjolras on tour. broadway he was ensemble.
Orestes Fasting

Ricky Martin is definitely not the Marius in that video. I think it might be Tim Howar.
Quique

Timmy_Wishes_He_Was_Quast asked what were the ORIGINAL casts for the three U.S. national tours. Kevin, Sutton, and Ivan were in the 3rd NT, but were not part of the ORIGINAL 3rd NT cast.

The 3rd NT ran from November, 1987 - July, 2006.

And yeah, that's Tim you saw in the vid, not Ricky. Smile
