The Docks (Lovely Ladies, Fantine's Arrest)
Quique

Hey, that wasn't bad at all. Most of the leads had pretty strong voices, especially your Fantine and Valjean. The vid effects at the end of "One Day More" made me giggle a bit, but it was all in all very enjoyable, hehe! =)

Hahaha, thanks for the kind words. I know it's not that good, but I've seen worse, so I'm not embarassed to post the videos. Laughing

As for the effects in One Day More... bahahaha, we all laughed when we first saw the DVD. One of the little girls dad edited the DVD and we had no idea he was going to add the godly beams of light.

In time there'll be more videos... Probably On My Own and the Finale, maybe Stars.

EDIT:

Added On My Own.

PS: Sorry for our Synthesizers, Quique! I wish we could have afforded an orchestra.
Quique

Oh, I'm not too harsh on high school productions when it comes to the orchestra and other production values. Though I'm absolutely merciless and brutal when it comes to pro productions. Twisted Evil

Your Eponine really isn't bad. A bit off, but overall good for someone who was sick. Love her "preeetending!!!!" =)

And you're right, this is definitely waaaay better than other school productions out there on YouTube, lol.

Your production's biggest strength is in the strong vocals. I like the costumes and lighting too.

Your Valjean is really, really good.

He's my best friend.
Ergo I'm really good by association.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
Quique

Haha, yes. You are. <3

I want to see your old, sketchy, evil crone!!! Laughing

very impressive for a school production. schools doing le miz always make me feel a little shakey because i feel like they wouldn't truly be able to pull it off, but you guys definitely did! good job Applause

This isn't actually a "school" production. Though most of us were high school students, except for a few who were in the first years of college, and of course the little children.

It was community... but really the director chose the show for her private voice students. All of the leads, minus Enjolras and Javert, were private students of hers. That's why they are weaker singers.

The director felt entitled to give her students roles. Like our Eponine was a private student for many years, so she got the role, even though she wasn't the best actress, and had to work really hard on the vocals.
Sweeney Hyde

...I agree with Quique with everything he said...however...the guy playing Javert...I didn't like...maybe because I'm so picky about Javert...but...idk...just wasn't as strong as I like to see...course it is an ametuer production...but still...you know.
Fantine

Eponine sounds a bit restrained. Even the way she stands, moves, etc. Her breath support wasn't the best either.
Her voice grew on me eventually.

When I heard the first few notes by Fantine I turned up the volume. However, I think she puts in a little too much vibrato.
Ouch. "There.was.no.ransom.to.be.paid." Where's the smoothness? Free melody? This is almost staccato. Nice belt on Shame. The last part is definitely better for her. "Be" sounds a little off.

Loved the Cosette, she has a beautiful voice. Smile The Thenardiers were good too.
EponinesRain

This is pretty good for an amateur production! Smile I like your Fantine, overall. I think she acted better and had more control of her voice than your Valjean. Well, save for the 'be' and 'seemed' parts; but still, strong vocals and good vibrato in the beginning of her IDAD.

Valjean is a great singer for a 17-year-old! I just think his vibrato needs to be a bit controlled. He reminds me of Adam Jacobs in that regard. Nevertheless, he'll no doubt be amazing if he continues working on his vocals!

Your Eponine seemed like she was reciting the song, figuring out what to say next. But of course, these aren't professional actors, and her OMO wasn't bad. Plus, I'm very critical so take what I say with a grain of salt! Wink Thanks for sharing! Good job!

Added "The Docks" (Lovely Ladies/Fantine's Arrest) video....

I am the old scissor hag lady... Ugh.

It's so bad, lol! I'm so embarassed.

This was a bad week. The night before this I passed out from exhaustion/dehydration and wasn't supposed to be in the show the night this was taped. But I'm stubborn and did it anyway. Very Happy

So yeah... The second time I reach for Fantine's hair, it's not actually a crazy hag lady limp, I'm literally tripping.
And my scissors get caught in my apron, lol!

And the director was lame and didn't let me do anything cool with the character. She was very "focused on the vocals" and was convinced what was being said was enough and we didn't need to build big exciting characters. Which kind of shows in all the videos Confused

Also, I was the only soloist in the entire show without a mic! NO FAIR!

And the costumer hemmed my skirt too short.

LOL
Quique

I think you were awesome, Laurel!

I loved it when Fantine smacks your hand away, lol!!!!

And you're right, you've got a very powerful voice. It has a very mature sound to it. I'm impressed. I bet you're one heck of a belter!

Later on in the original Broadway production, they had the crone cross the stage holding Fantine's newly chopped off hair, only she'd run by screeching like an insane maniac! lol. I like it that they had you get away with the hair in your hand, hehe.
lesmisloony

You have a fantastic voice! I wouldn't have noticed the scissor thing if you hadn't pointed it out. Geez, I don't sound that good when in the prime of health...

I wish we could have afforded an orchestra.

I just saw a really crummy LMSE in which there WAS a real orchestra, and it was out of tune the entire time. Not only did it completely make my ears bleed, but it made things like the BHH orchestral reprise hurt when they should be moving. Hurrrgh.

Worst part? The thing was directed by Terrence Mann.
Mademoiselle Lanoire

Well, he's an actor. That doesn't mean he's got what it takes to teach music.

Enjolras...*cringe* Shocked
