You do realize your pool of potential candidates is in the hundreds.

There's also a distinction between Young Cosette and older Cosette. I was about to reply with "Ashley Jarrett."
BriZanna

sorry Embarassed will it be narrowed if I ask best little Cosette on a recorded cd?
EponineMNFF

For the recordings, I'd say listen to Hannah Chick from the TAC. A balloon pops in the middle of her performance and she jumps a bit, but her singing is a lot better than other Cosettes I've heard. I think it's because she's slightly older and has more of a mature (not very mature, but more) voice.

Zoe Hard from the Original London Cast Recording is pretty good too.
flying_pigs

Non cast recording= Eden Mackney. So cute!
Recording= Zoe Hart. She sounds so sweet and innocent!
music is my life!!!

i actually don't like Hannah Chick's voice but i like her performance!

my fave Little Cosette is probably the one on the OLC

Mr. Green
Elin

best little Cosette on a recorded cd?

My favorites are Maryse Cdolin and Zoe Hart.
happyguava

I am not a fan of Little Cosettes in general, or Castle on a Cloud, but I do like Hannah Chick's performance.
Eponine93

Castle on a Cloud makes me want to barf and so do most Little Cosettes (I should record myself imitating most Little Cosette's) but I was always rather fond of Zoe Hart.

As for elder Cosettes... on a recording, I like Rebecca Caine. Onstage, I enjoyed Ali Edwolt's take on the character even though I didn't like her voice.
Maid Marian

I'm another Zoe Hart fan.

Julia Moller or Lydia Griffiths is my favourite older Cosette.
southernsweetie23

I think Hannah Chick was adorable, but I didn't care much for her voice. Watching the 10th anniversary concert, she was interrupted by something, but made a good recovery from it.
deedlebug103

I love Ali Ewoldt!

One of the balloons burst.
JulieJordan

I'm not sure if I have a favourite Little Cosette as I find that once you've seen one, you've seen them all, but Hannah Chick was very cute.

My favourite grown up Cosettes are Julia Mller and Rebecca Caine- both have such beautiful voices and engaging interpretations.
sherwills

I love Judy Kuhn as the grown up Cosette.
Fantine

I do not find the scenes with little Cosette memorable or distinctive enough to like or dislike one actress more than another.
Quique

^ I agree.

And I think I'll have a balloon purposely pop the next time I sing, so that I may be remembered, lol.

She's awesome! I love her too. Smile
Fantine

Judy Kuhn looks like a man.

Give me Julia Mller!
eponine5

That's so mean! But that was my first thought when I saw her on the TAC as well...

I loves Julia Mller too! (TVAW, that was intentional thank you very much!)

I used to mind who played little Cosette, but now I don't care as long as they aren't creepy little goblins who wring their hands all through Waltz of Treachery! Confused
music is my life!!!

all the little cosettes really annoy me for some reason...

Wel I also like Rebecca Caine and Ali Ewoldt.

As for Little Cosettes, I really like Hannah Chick, The Revival Cosette we saw, (I don't remember her name at present) and my friend who played Little Cosette a few years ago! Very Happy
EponineMNFF

I've found from the time when I've seen the show live (and when I've listened to recordings official or otherwise) that the London Young Cosettes are just a litle bit better than the Broadway/US Tour Young Cosettes. Is that just me? The US Cosettes are always annoying to me. X_x Same goes for Gavroche, now that I think about it...

It may have something to do with the fact that the UK kids are usually older.
Quique

Judy Kuhn - Broadway

I never saw her live onstage but have heard and seen enough of her interpretation to know she's the best of the ones I've seen.

Other Cosettes I've seen:

Karen Fineman - 2nd NT (Good)
Kimberly Behlmann - 1st NT (Good)
Tamra Hayden - 3rd NT (Good)
Barbra Russel - 3rd NT (Great)
Gina Feliccia - 3rd NT (Meh)
Christeena Michelle Riggs - Broadway (Good)
Regan Thiel - 3rd NT (Great)
Stephanie Waters - 3rd NT (OK)
Sandra Turley - Broadway (Ugh...another smiler)
Tobi Foster - Broadway (Good)
Leslie Henstock - 3rd NT (Great)
Ali Ewoldt - 3rd NT (my fave live Cosette so far - so cute!)
Fantine

Ali Ewoldt seems like a really cute and good Cosette but I've heard basically nothing and seen too little of her. This is only based on what other people have said and on her expressions on the few photographs that are out there.

(that said, where the hell are the photo's of the "new" London cast?)
Moci

Lydia Griffiths is probably my favourite adult Cosette, although my favourite vocally is Rebecca Caine on the OLC.

Ali Ewoldt has a great, really cute interpretation of the role. She doesn't make me hate the character. However... if she was any sharper, she'd be singing the wrong notes... Her singing is incredibly out of tune.
Quique

^ She must have had an off night when you saw her, or something, cause her voice was flawless when I saw her on tour. Confused

Not when I saw her.
Eponine93

I must have seen her on an off-night (it was right after Lea joined the cast, maybe she was nervous?) because her voice was very shrill and annoying. I have a bootleg of her and she sounds fine on that, but when I saw her, her vocals did not impress me.

She sounded a bit shrill when I saw her too. At times, her voice almost reminded me of (God-forbid!) Tracy Shayne...
Fantine

There is so little of her out there. On youtube there's only the advertisement.
EponineBarker

That's a pity, 'cause she is a good Cosette.
Roger's Chica

When I was really into Les Mis, I was always a HUGE fan of Regan Thiel. She always put SO much work into making her Cosette multi-dimensional... and wasn't she the one who was married to her Marius and one of the only actresses who used her real hair for Cosette rather than a wig? (It's been a long time.)

She was just so REAL. And she sang pretty.
Quique

Don't know if she married Tim Howar (the Marius at the time) but I do know she definitely didn't use a wig and she was fantastic in the role. I saw her as Cosette about 6 times.

It was refreshing to see a blonde Cosette. Not to mention a very good interpretation of the role, for a change.

She and Tim dated for a long time, including their time together on tour, but they never married. He's now married to Ruthie Henshall.

Christeena Michelle Riggs and Rena Strober were also unwigged, but it's a rare occurrence. Regan was the first blonde Cosette in the US.
Fantine

Still, there is this bootleg floating around in which she isn't very good. An off day?

He is really? Wow...

And thank you, it's been a really long time and I couldn't remember. Smile
I do remember it being a big deal that Regan used her own hair because she couldn't do the traditional Cosette track since her hair was too big.
The Very Angry Woman

Roger's Chica wrote:

What do you mean? She was a farmer/laborer/whore like all the other Cosettes.
Roger's Chica

I swear I remember reading that she couldn't be a nun because her hair was too big to fit under the headdress??
Fantine

Maybe that was just a joke?
Roger's Chica

Fantine wrote:

That's possible. It was years ago and it wouldn't be a shock for 13 year old Erin to "not get" things. Wink
kozafluitmusique

I like Judy Kuhn...but that's just me Wink
NoOneMournsTheWicked

I like Ali Ewoldt a lot as Cosette. I saw her on Broadway in the revival and she was wonderful.
kozafluitmusique

*embarrassed* I read the post wrong! I posted the older Cosette!! d'oh!

I like the one that's in the symphonic cast recording...I forgot her name! d'oh!

Marrisa Dunlop?
Fantine

Who cares about the young Cosette's, anyway?

Wink
flying_pigs

They provide the 'awwwww' appeal in the show Razz
EponineMNFF

Except for when they're awful. Then you're just depressed because if ONLY these girls knew that all they have to do is look cute and sing in their headvoice EVERYONE loves them. But nooooo they insist on trying to belt it. /minor rant

Is it just me, or do the West End Lil' Cosettes seem to do better than the Broadway/US tour Young Cosettes?

My favorite grown up Cosette so far is Marina Prior in the original Australia cast. No I didn't see her live on stage, just watched the Australia day concert video, and she is like an angel. Ali Edwolt is lovely but I haven't seen her enough. As for the English recordings I like Rebecca Caine's voice most of all.
Window

My fav was Nina Negri in the 3rd National Tour. I liked the depth, ease and rich tone quality of her voice. Her acting was so natural that I actually got what she was feeling. It made her story so much more interesting. Her voice reminded me of Judy Kuhn, whom I also LOVE, but never got to see perform.

I'm curious, is this usually the case with UK shows? Why so?

I tend to like the older children as well, I find them less annoying.

I love the ultra cute, almost feeble looking Cosettes. Makes you want to hug them and watch over them. I really dislike the horribly tall and old looking/sounding ones...*CoughMadridCosetteCough*

Geez, I didn't like anyone in that.
And their rock step was really.... ummm.... aggressive.
lckysvn777

My favorite young Cosette would have to be Lacey Chabert.
Kylie Liya Goldstein was very good too when I saw her back in June.

Older Cosette would have to be Ali Ewoldt. I saw her in June and on Thursday night. I met her both times and she is a sweetheart. Seemed as if she was honored that I was asking for her autograph.
