Your favourite Barricade boy

Discuss. I haven't included Marius and Enjolras because they're included as principles and God only knows we've had enough of those discussions, but theres never seemed to be one of these before. So, who's your favourite barricade boy and why?

Go go go. Unless this is completely pointless, then let it sink. =]

I voted Grantaire. I've been quite interested in Grantaire atm (I'm talking musical, btw, can't get hold of the Brink at the present moment) and I just think he's more than the drunk. I think he genuinly cares for Enjy and I just love his character and... well his Mizzie is just fabulous.

I didn't write a huge essay, and I know they're not great reasons but I'm pretty damn tired.

Um, so have Lesgle and Jean Prouvaire gone the way of Bahorel...?

When I opened this thread, I was debating whether to pick Jehan or Joly, but I guess that's not an issue now... so Joly! I want to ruffle his hair.

in spite of my nick and my avatar, I voted for courfeyrac.

partly I picked him in a fangirly whim because I am still under the charm of hot courfeyrac from the 2000 depardieu's movie Drool .

but also because i always feel attracted by solar, charismatic and positive personalities. nerdy, poetic, philosophic, unlucky, empoverished or hypocondriac types might be cute, but they are not for me.
If he were in the list, bahorel would actually be my second pick.

and something about the poll i guess you were only allowed 5 options, but shouldn't bossuet be in it? After all, he's go a much biggert part in the novel than feuilly... is it because he is bald? Wow, the guy is really unlucky!

Grantaire! I adore him. *Squishes*

Grantaire's popularity certainly has gone up since the Mizzie's!

I admit though, he rocks my socks off, too.

Somtimes I feel that there is a certain eppybopperish attitude with grantaire. Like picking some nice lovable characteristics of him and forgeting everything else. Of course, nobody goes, "oh, i'm soooo totally like grantaire", but...
Every one seems to focus in the lovely, funny tipsy guy, or the sad "drink with me" guy with an enriquited love... And oh, yes, hugo said he was ugly, but most times ugliness seems to be achieved with an untidy hair and unshaven face.
Now, unless I am mistaken hugo never said the guy was untidy... and he was not just ugly he was impossible ugly. Even grisettes who in some way were a kind of paying girls (maybe men did not give them money to sleep with them but this kind of girl looked for guys who bought them nice clothes, took them to restaurants, etc.. ) found him impossible...
Sometimes I try to picture him as a younger jean-paul sartre (he is the most impossible person I've seen in my life, in picture or real life. he is so ugly he gives me goosebumps. and just thinking that he could touch me, arggghhh. for those who don't have his face in mind: www.voltairenet.org/IMG/jpg/es-wwwSARTRE.jpg
). So, I try to picture R as a very drunk young jean-paul sartre...
And when I imagine this very drunk young sartre following me everywhere with adoring eyes *goosebumps* and distracting everybody with his rants while I try to do something important, then, well, I totally understand the way enjolras treats him...
(before you tell me: i know iknow E does not despise him because of the way he looks. I was just trying to picture myself in enjolras position)

*looks at Sartre* Meep! *hides*

Yeah, um, Grantaire fans actually tend to annoy the living hell out of me when they're the type to claim that R and his drunken ramblings were totally right all along, that Enjolras was a silly boy in love with some distant, abstract idea that could never come true, that he got all of them killed for nothing, etc. Fanfiction authors tend to be particularly guilty of this for some reason. I just want to smack them upside the head and ask if they ever even read the book or if they had "Turning" playing on their headphones all through the barricade scenes.

It's almost as though it is a love triangle and, like Eppyboppers trashing Cosette, some people sympathetic to Grantaire feel the need to deride Enjolras' devotion to the republic.

(Of course, I've also seen a good few Enjolras/Combeferre fics that deal quite harshly with Grantaire, or deny him any romantic tension with Enjolras. Which also makes me uncomfortable. Maybe I'm just picky.)

The funniest thing about wise and prescient grantaire is that I'm pretty sure in july 1830 he was also sitting at a table with a bottle of wine, sulking and ranting about how stupid it was to go fight the bourbons and risking getting killed at a barricade in such a fine summer day!

(well, the revolutionaries won and as far as we know none of his friends was even hurt. so much for wise and prescient grantaire)

I'm sure I put Lesgle and Prouvaire in there! I'm sure I did!

Hmm... that is weird. Can you edit polls?

Edit: Turns out I can't. Sorry Lesgle and Prouvaire! I love you!

I see where you're coming from. I know if I knew the novel as well as you do, those observations about the musical by fans would also likely annoy the crap out of me.
