21st BirthdayNo news yet but tickets for that whole weekend are NOT on sale at The Queens.
Hyde Park is looking likely [I have sources of info] but does that have 'indoor' stage facilities? If not, it could be cold and wet in October!

I'd like to go but won't be too keen if it's going to be outdoors. Not with the weather here being so unpredictable.

Does any of you know for how long will they continue to play Les Mis in Queens?

OK, fine, I'll stop, but all I'll say is that I did say:

Sorry for the somewhat newbie question but any idea what cast would preform this? Would it be the London cast at the time or would it be a "dream cast" ala TAC?
Can we also expect this to be released like the TAC?
Thanks.

I think this is rumoured to be the last cast change, thus the last year for a while. |
Really? So Les Mis will stop after her 21st birthday?

No its not. Will people please stop spreading rumours- unless you have a fact to back it up. It's moving from the Queens as the theatre itself will be refurbished, no theatre has been confirmed to home the show as yet, as this will depend on how long certain musicals remain at certain theatres (ie- Avenue Q, Wicked, Dirty Dancing etc....). The show is still reeling in the crowds (most nights 750-850 full seats a night) and there is no reason to take it out of the west end.
My pleasure.

For God sake, I read on a site that Cameron Mackintosh wanted to keep the show on just after the 21st year, and that he was perhaps taking it off the West End after the 21st year. If I read something relevant, I post it on this site. For all I know this could be fact. I read it roughly 3 to 4 months ago. Perhaps it's not, perhaps it's changed. But please, don't tell people not to post things on this site that is perhaps a rumour: we are all speculating. Try not to sound like you've been here for 6 years. As I say, I've read about that, and I post it under the question. I'd like to read more about Les Miserables moving theare, may I have a site?

Thanks. | Hi Andrew, sorry I don't know. I imagine it will be a huge thing using some big names. Rumours abound, for eg that Michael Ball will play Valjean etc etc etc. Nothing concrete yet.

Wow. I don't know if I'm happy or not. I think Michael Ball is brilliant, but I'll always see him as a Marius.

Still I do think that it's dangerous to say stuff like this without having actual facts.

I'd be really interested in seeing Ball as Valjean. He has such a powerful voice that could reallly do justice in the role. He was my pick for the role in the Broadway revival but it doesn't look like that will happen so I hope he does the role in this concert.

Oh yes, I totally agree that he'd do justice to the role, and I'd think he's be phenomenal as Valjean. All I'm saying is that it'd be weird seeing the scenes with Marius and Valjean with Michael Ball singing Valjean's part. But, as I say, I think he's one of the greatest performers with one of the best voice, and I think he'll be fantastic in the role. And the fact that he's older now helps... That's one of the reasons I don't like Gary Morris - he sounds too young, and not 'husky' enough. Now that Ball's far older (40-something), I think he'll suit the role far better than when he did when he played Marius.

Ya don't need to get so wound up with my ollyfied, I happen to know for a fact that Les Mis is going to stick around the west end for a while yet. Some of my friends work in the box office and I am good friends with many of the cast and camerons people too. Its just annoying when people come up with these things thats all. I may not have been on the forum for six years but I am here now. Lets not get arsey!!!

Its a bit like the 'allegedly' thing in the news. Then nobody can complain.

From lesmis.com:
Quote: | 8 October 1985 - 8 October 2006
As most of you know, on October 8th, LES MISERABLES celebrates its 21st Birthday and becomes the longest running musical in the world. Plans to celebrate this have been moved into early 2007 as this date is too close to the re-opening of the show on Broadway to make the appropriate splash! As soon as our plans for next year are more clear, we will announce them on this site.
Indisputably the world's most popular musical, the lege |
Hmm...still cant figure what a Broadway revival has to do with a celebration that was most certainly going to happen in London. TAC wasnt canceled just because Les Miz was playing on Broadway at that time too. Weird story.

Well since it's the Broadway reopening and not just any normal run (as it was during the TAC), there will be some celebrations and such so I'm sure their resources are going to this.

But the Bway reopening happens one month after the 21st birthday, and there was always rumors about the celebration to happen earlier. But so what, I still think its kinda strange.
