Any tours in New Zealand?

I've noticed that there are tours/major Mackintosh productions of Les Miserables practically everywhere from Europe to Canada to Australia, but not New Zealand. Has there ever been a Les Miserables tour in New Zealand? If not, do you know if there'll ever be one, or when the next one is? All I know is Miss Saigon's coming next year to NZ...
The Very Angry Woman

There really aren't that many tours of the show anymore. The tours had their heyday in the late '80s and early '90s, and after 18 years, the Les Miz tour closed a week ago. There isn't a UK tour anymore, and there hasn't been a Canadian tour since 1991 or so.

I think the last Les Miz tour in NZ went to Auckland and Christchurch. It was during the Quast days.

Mmm.. I'm wanting a professional production in Australia. Apparently no rights for amateur companies have been granted for 2007, so maybe I can take that as a hint that there will be a show?

Hayden Tee can do it!!! Very Happy When's he getting out of Titanic? I hope there will be another new professional production (in English) aside from the 6 month revival.

I thought that the rights for the whole production had been released in Australia. And in Australia alone.

?

Yes, Australia has rights for the full show available to amatuer companies (as does NZ and, I believe, the UK).

What lalala was refering to (I think) is that the rights have been witheld in 2007 so a professional show can be put together.

That is what I meant, thanks Buff!

There was a huge wave of Les Mis productions last year and the year before, but strangely nobody is doing it next year, and I heard that the reason was due to a professional production, no rights were granted. It'd be great if it were true.. I haven't actually seen a professional production yet.

Oh right, that'd be great for you Aussies Smile

Here's hoping!

Out of curiosity, are the rules for the Australian amateur productions as strict as the school edition ones in terms of set and costume design, what can be cut or restored, etc?
Fantine

I think they are exactly like the official production, but I'm not entirely sure.

I'm not sure what the rules for set and costume are for the SE, so I can't comment on that.

That's correct. We do the full version - no cuts.

Hmm. Full amateur rights does presumably mean it doesn't have the ridiculous SE cuts, but do the Australian amateur versions have the cuts that were made to the professional productions? And are they allowed to do further cuts if they need to save time or they're having trouble with something? The SEs aren't allowed to bring anything back or cut anything further, and I've heard they have to model their sets and costumes on the professional productions. (Which would irk me if I directed a SE, because the professional costumes aren't exactly models of historical accuracy.)

There have been so many cuts to the show since it first opened it's hard to know. In the OLC recording is the song "Little People" sung by Gavroche. That was cut from the professional show at some stage, and so isn't in the amatuer rights (I did the show back in 2001). My guess is that the amatuer show is basically the same as the professional show.

I don't know for sure, but I would assume that if a song or a verse of a song was cut, then it would be OK. But why would you want to Wink

As far as I'm aware we don't have to follow the sets or costumes. For example, we did not having a revolving stage for our show.
