"On 8 October 2006, Les Miserables celebrates its 21st birthday and becomes the world's longest running musical (See News, 2 Aug 2006). To celebrate the occasion, producer Cameron Mackintosh and the BBC have teamed up to produce a specially adapted 75-minute concert version of the show

The current West End cast featuring John Owen-Jones (as Jean Valjean), Hans Peter Janssens (Javert), Jon Lee (Marius), Sophia Ragavelas (Fantine), Sabrina Aloueche (Eponine), Chris Vincent (Thnardier) and Tracie Bennett (Madame Thnardier) - and the BBC Concert Orchestra will record the concert before a live audience on Friday 15 September 2006 at the Mermaid Theatre. It will be broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on the show's actual birthday Sunday 8 October."

"At the Queens [Theatre], there will also be a special celebratory finale following the Saturday evening performance on 7 October, details of which are due to be announced shortly. A limited number of tickets, priced at 20 and limited to two per person, are available to buy for the BBC recording of the concert version at 3.00pm on 15 September. They can be booked by calling 0870 950 2121."

For those who don't recieve BBC Radio 2, it should be available to listen to online for 1 week after the broadcast on http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/. It is very rare that performances on BBC radio are released on CD and therefore it is unlikely to happen.

I can't afford to go (just blew all the money I don't have on a ticket for Guys & Dolls) but I'll listen out on the radio for it. I'm glad they've done SOMETHING for the 21st.
Lazarus (Adam G)

John Owen-Jones?!

Nice. Couldn't have picked a better ValJean.

It's great that they actually decided to do something like this and yay for the 7th October finale because I'm going! Very Happy

I'm just annoyed that they didn't do this for the 20th anniversary. I liked the cast so much more. At least they have the joj!
Fantine

Oh yay. I do hope that it comes on the internet so I can listen to it. Otherwise, someone needs to record it!

Did I just say that out loud?
Mademoiselle Lanoire

Yes, you did.

It's not hard to record from the radio.
Lazarus (Adam G)

Believe me, there WILL be tons of bootlegs out there.
flying_pigs

I can't go because I only saw LM last week. Sad
Aimee

Damn!

I'm singing in a show that night and gve only got tickets for the matinee. Crying or Very sad

Wwwwwaaaaaaahh!!

I need a hug.

Good luck to those of you who can go!
javertsw

I'd love to go, but I don't think I can go at this rate. Tickets probably sold out too.
Actually, the 8th October last year was good fun but nothing too special. I actually had more fun at the last night Les Mis played at the Palace Theatre.
I hope they still have a big concert sometime next year too.

Reports seem to be trickling in about what took place at the recording last night.

There seems to have been lots of cuts (as expected), especially in the second act with Anthony Andrews providing narration to link it together. Quite suprisingly 'Castle On A Cloud' doesn't seem to have been recorded. All reports seem to be saying that the BBC Concert Orchestra were excellent and an improvement on the tiny orchestra and glorified midi files in Queen's Theatre.

Recording last night? What do you mean? Last night was September 15th...

Dunno, but you'll probably be able to watch it on the BBC web site.
Moci

It's been recorded for radio, not TV. As it's been said before, it should be available to listen to for one week on the BBC website.
Etoile

It should have been recorded for TV.
