Broadway Return

http://www.playbill.com/news/article/98004.html

Wow... three years, five months.
Fantine

Why?
Vicam

I think it's great that it's returning to Broadway...wish it were for longer (though maybe they'll extend it)...I'm very happy for Les Mis Smile

Hmm yes. Well it's a good thing for the fans over there in the USA.

Here's what I say. Smile

I'm horribly afraid of who's going to get cast in this.
Aimee

Why do you say that? Who do you think will be cast? Has there been rumours?

Aimee

LOL thats so true. Laughing I'd not heard that one before.
Moci

Does anyone else think that they might be doing this with some view to filming it. Surely it's one of the last chances they may have to film the original set and staging?

I'm not sure whether they're going to film it, but it probably won't be exactly identical: I talked to Randal Keith at the stage door the other night and he said they might be reorchestrating it for Broadway.
Rufelle4ever

Yay! This is so exciting.

This sounds interesting. Since I probably will not be able to go to New York, I would be happy with at least a cast recording, especailly if some of my favorites from the tour like Randal Keith and Ma-Anne Dionisio do return to their roles on Broadway.
Aimee

hmmmmmmmmmm should I go to New York just to see Les Mis there??

It might be a bit expensive.

hmmmmmm
The Very Angry Woman

You should if this proves to be true.

Irregular verbs, anyone?
convict24601

How about we forget about the fact i need to touch up on some of my spelling skills and get back to talking about Les Mis? Personally, with the show comming back to broadway, I'm excited enough to let some spelling errors go.... but hey thats just my opinion.

Nevermind, I just seem to remember last time someone brought up dream casts, proposing that next time it happened, we utilise the topic to discuss irregular verbs in languages other than English. If my memory still works, you then attempted to ask about irregular verbs in Spanish, Swedish or some other language beginning in 'S'. Smile
Sairin

Ah, I see. I remember that now. It was probably my Spanish homework, though it's interesting in Swedish too.

Why does it look familiar? I've been away for a while, wondering if this what you all discussed?

Because TVAW posted the exact same link before Orestes Fasting did.

Pay attention.
NotoriousFunnt

Well, since I'm a US fan, I am quite thrilled about the return. My parents are getting tickets for me as my graduation present, which is smashing. I look forward to it greatly...I especially hope Randal will be cast in it, he's so amazing.

Reorchestrations? *raises eyebrow* You know, I am thrilled that Les Mis is coming back, but if they're going to do any serious "reorchestrations" I shall have issues with them indeed. There is nothing wrong at all with Les Mis's orchestrations at the moment.

According to Jennifer Butt, there may be some changes similiar to what happened in London recently. I hope this doesn't mean implementation of the Sinfonia. (Hey, how about another strike! We're due...)
Sairin

Prepare for Who Am I to sound like it's played on one violin, kids. d'oh!
Mademoiselle Lanoire

Re-orchestrations could be cool, if done right. But now I'm a bit worried.
All_For_Laura

I heard Norm Lewis might be playing Javert.

Any truth to this?

Other cast members known?
NotoriousFunnt

I'm VERY wary of reorchestrations, as usually the term does not connotate something positive. If they cut the orchestra for this and use canned music...just the idea of that makes me so bloody furious. It's musical theatre, is nothing sacred anymore that we must cut the live music for the sake of saving money? Honestly...okay, I'll spare you my rant since y'all know how I feel on this. I just...I want Les Mis to come back so I can see it again, but reorchestrations = no.
Colle

I would not mind a reorchestration as long as it is done well, we will just have to wait and hear how it turns out. What I am excited about is that I believe it is possible we will get a cast recording because it is considered a revival, and seeing that there will probably be a reorchestration I am sure the powers that be will want as many people to be able to hear the new orchestration as possible. I just hope the cast is pretty good, along with the music, even though I probably will not get to broadway to see it.

Yeah, I think I linked to it earlier in this thread.

Does anyone know the exact date that tickets will go on sale? I recently missed buying Wicked tickets because they sold out in just three hours Sad I definately don't want to miss my favorite musical!

And also...any idea of how much it will cost?
Colle

I think we can confirm an ensemble member; her name is Sara Ford and she is going to be in the ensemble and a Cosette understudy. There is a short bio of her on the Young Artists Ensemble web site that mentions that she is going to be in the Broadway revival. I am going to post a link, you will have to click the "alumni" link and scrol down because it does not have a direct link:

eponine5

I've been counting down the days till tickets go on sale (beginning of June? tomorrow??!!) I'd love to see it, I'd even fly over to America just for that, but things are really expensive on broadway.
This would be a chance for another cast recording, but maybe they should do a combined broadway/west End recording. (*cough* John Owen Jones *cough*)
I'm not sure if they'll be filming it or not, it would be cool if they did, because even if you watch the smaller video clips in the tenth anniversary cast and stage by stage, it still looks great. But aren't they planning on making it into a proper film anyway?
Etoile

Do tickets really go on sale tomorrow? Shocked Where can I buy them? I've looked everywhere....I'm desperate here!

The site only says June, not a specific date in June.

Pshhness

Jenny Galloway as Mme Thenadier??? WOOT WOOT!!!! Very Happy Very Happy
Looking forward to hear Aaron Lazar as Enjolras. ^__^
Vicam

What does everyone think of Daphne Rubin-Vega in the role of Fantine? That was the one I was pretty shocked about...I love Daphne and am a huge fan of RENT but she seems like a very different choice for Fantine. Thoughts?
broadwaybaby124

OOH!
This is exciting news! hehe
I've been dying to see Les Mis for awhile now. My parents went to see it in 1995/1996 because my second cousin was Javair for a little bit, but they thought I was too young at the time. I've already asked for them to buy tickets and they said maybe, so thats good. I'm fairly lucky though, I live about 2hrs away from NYC in PA. Smile So its fairly easy to get there and see shows. It would be easier if my dad actually like NYC but that's a different story.
what_the_heck013

Daphne Rubin Vega? Fantine will be... interesting. But it WILL be good to see her back on Broadway.

Very Nice, Andrew.

This looks like a very good cast! I'm especially happy to see Adam, Gary, Jenny and Ali in the cast.

I'm a little iffy abut our Fantine though. Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see.

Is there any news of a new recording in the works for this cast?
AndrewShatterhand

I really hope there is a new recording and my dream would be for it to be another CSR to showcase the changes made in the show over the years(when in comparison to the other CSR of course). It also would just give us another complete recording of the show.

That being said, I hope ANY sort of recording is released.
NotoriousFunnt

It's a very interesting cast, that's for sure. Rubin-Vega I'm surprised at...I can't imagine her as Fantine, but I'm going to wait until I hear her before making any judgements. It just seems a bit weird...hope she comes out well as Fantine though, and can pull it off. I'll be curious to see that. The rest of the cast I'm not familiar with, but oh well. I look forward to this nonetheless.

Just a squee because I see Ragtime...I know nothing about Ragtime, except I'm the oboist for the pit orchestra this summer Mr. Green
RyanJ

I think Daphne will fit right in as Fantine, I'm very optimistic about it Smile

My drama director knows her personally, and when he got married Daphne gave him a really cool candle. As in, "Light my Candle" from RENT, if you didn't pick up on that right away.
Orestes Fasting

A thought for people involved in the more nerdy websites-and-fanfiction side of things: the Les Mis fandom has been rather dead for the past few years. Think the Broadway revival will breathe new life into it?
eponine5

probably, because more people new to the show in america will get a chance to see it. A show on broadway will give a much bigger impression than a US tour. My impression is that a good portion of the London audience now are just Les Mis obsessors. (nothing wrong with that)
NotoriousFunnt

I think it will, too. The national tour was brilliant (I saw it two years ago, but haven't seen it since because it came nowhere near me), but it goes so far and in so many places that it really doesn't stick out as much. Broadway is well known, and everyone rememebers Les Mis on Broadway (the plaque is still there in front of the Imperial the last time I checked). Having it come back will bring it to the forefront again, with a lot of new people who maybe wanted to see it before but missed it, or people who see it this time and decide to go, and of course insane mizzies who live nearby and will definitely rejoyce in this.

I know my parents are getting me tickets as a graduation present (partially because I asked, and partially because it's cheaper than an English horn or Sibelius 4 which is an awesome music composition program I wanted), and my French class is going on a field trip next year already to Les Mis.

I sure hope so.
mannfann714

I'm excited to see Alex Gemignani, though he seems kind of young to play Valjean. Amazing tenor voice. He was great in Sweeney Todd.

Daphne...I'll have to see it to believe it. She's an awesome Mimi, but...I just can't picture her as Fantine.

I believe he's the same age as JOJ was in his first run as Valjean.
eponine5

wasn't John Owen Jones meant to be the youngest ever Jean Valjean when he first started?

Me too, fantastic in Sweeney AND I got to hang out with him during a broadway workshop my JCS cast attended in the winter, and he's a truly genuine and great hard working guy. I really love him, and am psyched to see him as Val Jean. Very Happy Very Happy

Youngest principle, yes but it didn't really make much of a difference, he got the job done.

sigh.....Have fun, anyone who gets to see this!
I'm not going to get to see it, and the opening night is on my birthday.

I'm ok though I guess. I saw it once when it passed by.
