Changes in Les Mis: School EditionHey. Our school is doing Les Miserables as our school production, and I was wondering what were the specific differences between the School Edition and the normal production. |

I knew I'd forgotten something when I made the Dead Horse thread.

What's that supposed to mean?

It means use the search function, because I can't recall how many times this has been asked.

I did use the search function and didn't find anything. The only thing I found was a thread about making a sticky thread for the School Edition. But obviously that didn't happen. You really love jumping down people's throats.

A search for "school edition changes," include all terms, brings up this thread immediately.
We really ought to have an FAQ sticky, though. |

Okay, here are the differences I'm aware of
"Valjean's Soliloquy" has a verse removed "The Confrontation" is removed Valjean only goes up to an A at the end of "Who Am I" as opposed to the original Bb (I think) "Castle on a Cloud" loses a verse. "Cosette at the Well" is cut. Almost all of "Dog Eats Dog" is cut. "Beggar at the Feast" cuts a verse. "Lovely Ladies" has a few lines cut. The spat between Fantine and Bamabatois is cut down significantly. That's off the top of my head. |

Yeah, those are most of the major changes in the SE (and for the record, in its original key, "Who Am I?" goes up to a high C).
But the thread that Orestes linked to is the most helpful for finding all of the changes in the school edition, including little one-liners and bits and pieces. |

It looks like some of the changes (ie. Castle on a Cloud lost a verse, Fantine's Arrest is shorter) happened in the Broadway production too...

Yep, my piano/conductor score has it as a B. |

Thanks for the link. I read through most of the cuts and noticed that a lot of them have not just been cut from the school edition. For instance a lot of those parts don't appear in the Dreamcast Anniversary Performance either. So that's a good thing I think. Because I was judging how big the show would be against the Anniversary Performance, and aside from the complete cut of Confrontation, the changes aren't too bad. |
