Changes in Les Mis: School Edition

Hey. Our school is doing Les Miserables as our school production, and I was wondering what were the specific differences between the School Edition and the normal production.
Orestes Fasting

I knew I'd forgotten something when I made the Dead Horse thread.
Damn_Badgers

What's that supposed to mean?
Orestes Fasting

It means use the search function, because I can't recall how many times this has been asked.
Damn_Badgers

I did use the search function and didn't find anything. The only thing I found was a thread about making a sticky thread for the School Edition. But obviously that didn't happen. You really love jumping down people's throats.

A search for "school edition changes," include all terms, brings up this thread immediately.

We really ought to have an FAQ sticky, though.

Okay, here are the differences I'm aware of

"Valjean's Soliloquy" has a verse removed

"The Confrontation" is removed

Valjean only goes up to an A at the end of "Who Am I" as opposed to the original Bb (I think)

"Castle on a Cloud" loses a verse.

"Cosette at the Well" is cut.

Almost all of "Dog Eats Dog" is cut.

"Beggar at the Feast" cuts a verse.

"Lovely Ladies" has a few lines cut.

The spat between Fantine and Bamabatois is cut down significantly.

That's off the top of my head.

Yeah, those are most of the major changes in the SE (and for the record, in its original key, "Who Am I?" goes up to a high C).

But the thread that Orestes linked to is the most helpful for finding all of the changes in the school edition, including little one-liners and bits and pieces.

It looks like some of the changes (ie. Castle on a Cloud lost a verse, Fantine's Arrest is shorter) happened in the Broadway production too...

I just held my tuner up to the OBC, and it says it's a B.

Yep, my piano/conductor score has it as a B.

Thanks for the link. I read through most of the cuts and noticed that a lot of them have not just been cut from the school edition. For instance a lot of those parts don't appear in the Dreamcast Anniversary Performance either. So that's a good thing I think. Because I was judging how big the show would be against the Anniversary Performance, and aside from the complete cut of Confrontation, the changes aren't too bad.
