Comden and Green's circa 1940 Reader's Digest versionBefore ON THE TOWN, Betty Comden and Adolph Green performed with Judy Holliday as THE REVUERS. Among their skits was "The Reader's Digest", which presented 2 to 3 line versions of various books. The one for Les Miz goes:
Les Misrables:
Jean Valjean, no evildoer,
Stole some bread 'cause he was poor.
A detective chased him through a sewer.
The end.
Over at the social board I've started a thread about these condensed versions, have writtten one for OKLAHOMA!, and others are welcome.
