Dutch Production: I have been invited to audition!!!

I want to apply for an audition for the Dutch Production of Les Miserables.
I have to send in a CV and a photo.
As for my CV, I haven't done any musicals (since we don't know the principle of School Musicals or regional musical theatre (with the official productions), but I have won two singing contests and I also perform with a singing formation. I did background vocals for a National Songfestival and some more stuff like that. I am now in my third year of Vocal training and will earn a diploma at the end of this year (in July).
Some of you have heard me sing.

Now I want to ask what sort of photo I should send. I know that most casting directors ask for black and white headshots. Is this what I should go for? Then I would have to have it made. And in what size? Time is tricky here, because I have no clue as to when the form has to be send.

For the CV, how should I do that?

I know that I may lack some experience, but I feel that I should try. At any cost.

Love,

Fantine (a.k.a. Robin).
music is my life!!!

Hi!

Firstly, put any experience that you have in performing - it helps! Trust me! If you were a director and you had to chose between two people for a part - both of whom were really suited to the part, you wouldn't really want to hire both so you'd have to chose between them. If one had no experience but looked perfect for the role and the other had a bit of experience and could sing the part really well (and had training), i'd hire the one with the experience.

You've got alot to show off to the director - not that many people can say they've got the dedication for 3+ years of vocal training!

Secondly, if the part's really something you want set yourself a budget and search for photographers who are used for headshots. i don't really know much about this though. if you really want a part, follow the director's instructions as closely as possible!

Thirdly, try to find out when the form needs to be sent by. if you can't find out then send it off asap and call the director or whoever you send the form to.

Go for it! You deserve a part!

Very Happy

i can definately see you as Fantine (or Eponine! Very Happy )! what's your vocal range? if you feel comfortable singing low eb's Fantine's the part for you! But you probably already knew that...

Go for it!

Currently I am just aiming at the no-solo-lines-chorus-member, if I'm lucky Razz

any part would be great! my theatre group did les mis a few years ago and when we found out that we're doing it again in a few years everyone was jumping around cheering! Laughing
I think whatever part you get, you'll have the best time!
eponine5

It's great that you're going to try and audition. I have no experience in these sort of auditions whatsoever, but maybe the Luxor Theater (the theatre where it will be, am I right? Idea ) would have some sort of knowledge of deadlines, at least as far as rehearsals go.
I know you have an amazing voice and I can really see you in Les Mis! Very Happy You should definitely try to apply to audition for a lead role. What character can you see yourself as most?
I've heard that some people without agents have sent in recordings of themselves singing, although I'm not sure whether it helps. If they were willing to listen to say, the recording you posted here, who knows...?

(Have you asked this question in the Auditions section? I'm sure lots of people there would be able to help.)

Hello Robin

So nice to hear from you again Very Happy

I can't give any advices in this field, but i wish you the very, very best of luck Very Happy

(You do look the part as Fantine)
Fantine

Thank you for the advice. I have been thinking about sending a recording along with my CV and photo... I'm not sure yet. Doesn't that seem too pushy? Maybe I should save that for emergencies Wink

Out of all the leads, I could see myself as Fantine. I am still learning how to belt, but I can manage the sha-a-a-ame part now. I don't think I am a good enough belter for Eponine. I look the part of Fantine too. I would love to play Cosette but my High C's are tricky.

My only guess and hopes are on a chorus part or swing. (which would be totally awesome, I'd even do it for free, but that sounds too desperate Wink)

Still trying to contact my vocal teacher (who played in the Flemish production of Les Mis as the Bishop and Javert u/s) to ask him how to nail this.
music is my life!!!

if other people are sending in recordings of them singing, even if the director didn't ask for it, send one because e might find someone who's good and then look at yours and go... "WOW! Fantine - perfect!"
btw, are you any good at comedy? madam T is a fun part!

Fantine

Are these good enough headshots?

Which one is better, colour or black and white?
Quique

Yay! I love gay festivals, lol. Laughing

And you look amazing as always, Fantine! I like the color one more, btw.

You really do look the role of Fantine. I can also see you as Eponine or Cosette but Fantine is just perfect for you.

I really wish you the best of luck and keep us posted with updates of how things are going. It would be incredible if you actually get a part. I'll be so happy for you! Though if you don't, I'm sure the experience would be one you'll always remember. Have fun and good luck! Very Happy
music is my life!!!

have fun!

btw, i think you should send both cuz if the director prefers black and white he'll use that but if he's got no preference, the colour pic will give you an advantage - you look perfect for Fantine!
i hope you get a part! (i'm sure you will!)

Break a leg!

Good Luck! I hope you get into the cast!

I think you look so much like Cosette! You have such a sweet, innocent face!
Aimee

Good Luck Fantine!!
With your looks and voice you would be a wonderful Fantine!! I so hope you get it.

That's awesome. You should totally try it out, just like everybody else says! We're behind ya all the way Smile

Here's a site that might be helpful, if you want to know more about CVs. I have to write one up myself, for some internship positions. Hopefully this answers some questions!

How do i insert a link to a word so that this URL doesn't stretch everything out??
Fantine

Thank you all for your support!

I sent my little package this morning! So here's hoping..

I'll keep you informed Smile
eponine5

Good luck! Very Happy
What did you send?
Fantine

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!!!

I just came home and I found a letter in my mailbox....

THEY INVITED ME TO AUDITION!!!

To be able to audition for Les Miserables is a dream coming true. I am so exited! I love the letter Razz haha.

They are asking me to sing a song in Dutch from a musical similar to Les Mis. Their examples: Titanic, Cyrano, Joe, Phantom, Miss Saigon etc. (this is the exact formulation of how they wrote it down).

Crazy that they are allowing Phantom and Miss Saigon huh?
Electricity24601

Congratulations Fantine! That's AMAZING! Let us know what song you pick and how the audition goes.
LesMisForever

That is SO exciting. I am SOOOO happy for you Very Happy . You go girl!. Show them what you have got Very Happy Wink
Eponine93

That's absolutely wonderful! *is insanely jealous* Have you given any thought to your audition song yet?

I'm not surprised Miss Saigon is on there, because it measures your ability to sing Boubil and Schonberg style (I know I spelled that wrong). Also, most of the female Miss Saigon characters (OK, Kim) have characteristics of Eponine and Fantine, and require similar acting choices. But Phantom... I guess that's for the Cosette and Valjean auditioners.

Don't go with anything from Miss Saigon though. I bet the CDs have probably heard a million renditions of "I'd Give My Life For You".

These are just my thoughts on your comment though.
kozafluitmusique

that's wonderful!!! that's super wonderful!! Keep me posted!! I would love to see you perform when it comes!!!
Aimee

My advice is to sing something that is NOT usinga belt voice. In the UK they ie to hear your legit voice not the brasher belt voice. Smile

and well done!! I knew you'd do it.
Elin

Wonderful! Applause Very Happy

When is your audition?
Fantine

Thank you all!

I definitely won' t be singing any of the musicals they set as examples, since everyone will be singing those.... (especially Phantom and miss saigon).

Something not belty? Really Aimee? My vocal teacher is thinking about 'A new life' from Jekyll and Hyde, myself I'm thinking about 'Mijn leven is van mij' (Ich gehor nur mir) from Elisabeth.

Audition is on March the ninth.... So little time!
Cloudy This Morning

Oh Fantine, 'Mijn Leven is Van Mij' is perfect! A very nice show song. I think you should do that.
Fantine

'Mijn leven is van mij' is indeed nice. It's so hard to pick a song!

My teacher has auditioned for many shows though and he has performed in Les Mis, Phantom and Cats, so I think he will be able to give me a good song, especially since he knows what is right for me and he knows my alibilities.

I think he will most likely have me sing 'A new life'.
eponine5

Applause That's great news!!!!!!! Very Happy
Please keep us informed of what's happening! We all know you're great so you only have to show it to the CDs!
Good luck! I'm sure you'll do amazingly! Very Happy
Fantine

So, a few days left.

We decided on 'Thuis' (aka 'Home') from Beauty and the Beast. It fits my voice perfectly. This will be my song!

Smile
EponinesRain

Nice job, Fantine! Good luck and keep us posted! Smile
Lara

Ooh, good luck!

Oh, and if you haven't noticed, the pictures on page 1 aren't working. The link is broken.

Thank you both Smile I know, I removed them.
Aimee

Good luck sweetie!!!
Fantine

ONE DAY MORE!
The Pirate King

Best of luck tomorrow.
Fantine

Well I had a lot of fun (believe it or not), but I didn't make it Razz

Still, it is Les Mis so I'm glad I tried.

More info later Very Happy
Aimee

*hugs* well done anyway, [I felt the same when I auditioned for it too]- at least you had a go and will always be able to say that.
eponine5

Well done for going, even if you didn't get through Applause . I would never have the guts to do even that. If you think about it, only good came out of it. You'll get to see the production when it comes out, and now you know what to do for next time. Seriously, you have YEARS to try out for Les Mis, and you speak english well enough to be able to try in the West End one day if the Dutch production closes Very Happy .

(I'd love to hear the 'more info')
LesMisForever

Oh! Robin, hard luck. But, as everyone said, well done Very Happy . You had fun, and gained experience.
I am sure you will have much more opportunities, whether it is "Les Miserables", or another musical Very Happy
kozafluitmusique

awwww!

well...I cant wait to see it though Very Happy
Fantine

The audition was as follows:

First I needed to check in and hand in my English resum.

Then I waited in the hallway where there were some seats. There were about 12-25 people at the moment I stepped in. It turned out that for each set time (I was due on 4:20) there was a group of 7 people.

I was sitting next to a guy around my age who got a call back for Marius cover and ensemble. There was also a girl who got a call back for ensemble and Eponine, and one guy who I think got called back for Thenardier since he sang something comical.
They were ordered to study some main ensemble songs such as ATEOTD, LL, DYHTPS and their respective solo's.

(The guy who was called back for Marius had sung ECAET for his audition. Odd huh?)

So out of the around 25 people I've seen, only three passed the test.

They had been casting since Tuesday (my audition was on friday) and probably had seen around 350 people by then.
Quique

Yeah, glad you gave it your best shot! The experience is good, anyway. I know I'd be too chicken to try out, hehe.

You're very talented and this is just the beginning! I'm sure you'll get places and I can't wait to hear all about about it when you do. Great job, hon. Smile

(((Hugs)))
Lara

Oh, sorry you didn't make it. Well, congratulations on getting this far. =) It sounds like a fun experience.
