Early preview reviews on BWW

I haven't seen this posted yet so I thought I would post it...here are some early reviews from people who have attended the preview performances. Overall they are very positive but Daphne is taking quite a beating.

Omg...thank you soooo much for posting these!

I'm sorry but I'm REALLY WORRIED ABOUT THE NEW ORCHESTRATIONS!!! Mad

I can't believe they completely changed most of them! But, we'll see.

I'm a little surprised over the reactions to Daphne. I was hoping she would really do something amazing with the role. =(

I think I like the idea of Cosette wearing a white dress during "In My Life" and "A Heart Full Of Love."

I can't tell you how HAPPY I am to know some of the cuts have been restored! Omfg!! I could scream!! lol. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

And I also like the use of James fenton's "Ten Little Bullets" lyrics. I can't wait to hear what it sounds like. I know it's to the tune of "Look Down" but I wonder if the orchestrations are similar to the ones on the French concept album?

Thanks again!
Leon

Im not. It seems that she has been miscast.

Shame really cos it would have been great to see a new interpretation of Fantine. I guess this isnt it.

All we need now is for someone to get a bootleg

Lazarus, get back to me in a few days on that, I might have something coming in.

YES! Thank you Orestes Very Happy.

I've been away / haven't been concentrating on this at all, but is there any possibility of a legal recording of the the revival being made?

Ali Ewoldt wrote in her blog:
In response to some of your questions: I honestly have no idea what is going on with the cast recording. Of course, I would love to do one, as would the rest of the cast. I figure, there are already so many recordings of Les Mis out there, why not do one more?

Lazarus (Adam G)

Maybe by then they will have sacked Daphne...

Cosette's new gown? I'd like to see a picture of that! Very Happy

From the links posted above, the cast seems great (except for Daphne..)!

My very good friend went to a 2nd preview show on Oct 25th. He is in his early 30's and not a big theater buff, but likes shows with good music and story. So, for his wife's birthday he bought Les Miz tickets. This was his second time watching the show. The first one was many years ago.

He loved it, and he said the cast was excellent, except Fantine, which in his own words..."sucked a**" -- not listenable, and he was telling his wife during "I Dreamed a Dream" -- "Don't worry, she'll be dead soon."

I really wonder why Daphne was cast in this role? I mean, she is obviously (from EVERYONE's point of view who posted reviews) is a liability. It's not like people are picking on her out of nothing.

And without a solid Fantine, would anyone blame the critics when they withhold a star for this revival?

(I'm going to see the show on Nov. 8th -- the last preview, and I'm secretly hoping that Daphne is replaced by...frankly I don't even care whom.)

If Idina Menzel extends her Wicked run and stays in London longer than expected (like rumours seems to be warning *grrrr*), then Kerry Ellis would be available...

Equity wouldn't allow it.

Unfortunatly , I can't see the revival because I live in Seattle, and there's no chance of me going to New York! Crying or Very sad
The reviews sound lovely, except for Dafnie. (I haven't heard her in Rent, so I can't compare her to other performances.) Celia as Eponine, sounds lovely! Im glad OMO sounds more interesting than usual! Very Happy
When there's a recording, I will want it terribly!
Thanks for the info vickam and The Very Angry Woman!
