Favorite book quotes?

As the title says.

I must admit I don't really know any quotes from the top off my head except for: "And then you know, monsieur Marius, I believe I was a little in love with you."

(It goes like that, right? Confused)
eponine5

"Never among animals does the creature which is born to be a dove change into an osprey. That is seen only among men."

"Souls blooming yesterday, faded today, like those flowers which fall in the street and are bespattere by the mud before a wheel crushes them."

"Women play with their beauty as children do with knives. They wound themselves."

^ I absolutely adore all of those!

There are tons more, but I'll have to find my notebook where I wrote them all down.

I don't have my copy of the brick with me right now but my absolute favorite is when Hugo says the only evil in society is ignorance or something to that extent. How absolutely true.

"What is the cat? It is a correction. God, having made the mouse, said, 'Hold here, I have made a blunder!' and he made the cat."

(I used to be all obsessed with cats, [not Cats] so I memorised that one.)

One I love but haven't memorised (and have left my copies of the Brick in my dorm over Christmas break ...!) So I'll just give a sketchy, sketchy attempt to quote it from sketchy, sketchy memory.

(conversation between Valjean and Montparnasse)
"How old are you?"
Nineteen.
You are young and strong. Why dont you work?
It bores me.
What is your profession?
Loafer.
Talk sense. What can I do to help you? What do you want to be?
"Thief."

I don't have my highlighted copy of the brick, but I distinctly remember this quote and how much I loved it when I first read it. And because of my weird love for Montparnasse, I like anything by or about him.

And me! I love Montparnasse too! We should start a club.

I've posted these before when we had Eponine day, but they remain my favorites. My friend also has a pretty husky voice, and I always remember that second quote about the piano when I talk to her, haha...

"She was humming to herself as though she were alone, snatches of music-hall songs, cheerful ditties which her raucous, tuneless voice made dismal. But beneath this show of boldness there was a hint of unease and awkward constraint...In the animal world no creature born to be a dove turns into a scavenger. This happens only among men."

"She was striving to make her voice soft but could only make it sound more guttural, and some of the words got lost in their passage from her throat to her lips, as on a piano with some of the notes missing. Marius gently drew away."

I also like this one from Enjolras:
"Marius was staring thoughtfully at the ceiling. He repeated, half-consciously, 'My mother?...' And Enjolras laid a hand on his shoulder. 'Citizen,' he said, 'my mother is the Republic.'"

Last one from Eponine. This always makes me chuckle, even though it's quite pitiful:
"'Watch out, the bogies are around.'"

I like a couple about Fantine, too. Hrm, I need to flip through my book...
