For Those Band Geeks Who Like Les Mis...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Dlkq13xa9EI'm trying to persuade my teacher to do a Broadway theme for next year. This reminds me that I have to finish memorizing my music and practicing my drill. |

One of our band-rival high schools did Les Mis.

Your band could totally pull that off Lexi- it would be way cooler than the story that nobody understands
PS. Hi Stranger Danger! |

Hannah, you need to post the photographic proof I met an online stranger and am still alive.

A marching band in Southern California did a Les Miserables show last year. Ours did a Queen show.

Indeed. Did you graduate recently enough to see that band show? I thought they did a pretty awesome job. |

Re: For Those Band Geeks Who Like Les Mis...
Does anybody else hate the arrangement? I much prefer the arrangement for windband, even though some of the playing i this clip isn't so good. Of course though, nothing matches full orchestra and the original orchestrations. |

the "original"It seems that band is recycling the show done by the Garfield Cadets (brass corp) in 1989:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gS9UmXBN9Y0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adaynuXci_8 The sound quality on the youtube video's not great, but you can hear the playing was MUCH better. |

I applaud them for doing this. It must be so hard and with the choreography, wow!
I can't say I really like the music though. |

Re: For Those Band Geeks Who Like Les Mis...
This is awesome though. Like I said before, if they were ever to release an instrumental recording of Les Mis I would totally buy it. The music in itself is gorgeous, I don't need to hear voices (Ouch at the start of IDAD though ) |

Well... do you people want the good news or the bad news first?
Good news: A BAND AT YESTERDAY'S COMPETITION DID A LES MIS SHOW! SQUEEEEEE! Bad news: The band had a step-off prior to ours, because they're in a smaller group, so we weren't allowed to watch them. I only heard a bit of the prologue as we were warming up (but the prologue sounded fierce) And, btw... our band lost. Well, second out of three and no extra awards. I'm not surprised since we had a four and a half hour rehearsal in the blazing heat before-hand, but it's pretty dissapointing. |

Sorry to hear that. Our band always loses. The year we did Wicked, our band got pummeled. |

Yeah, it kind of sucks because it's only our third competition of the season (and this is my first year) and we won both competitions previously (not like we had a lot of competition from the other band.) The thing is, we should have won but our best player (who has a solo) is on a cruise this week and missed the competition so not only did we have a big hole in the middle of the mellophone section but the replacement for the solo wore himself out at practice and cracked on the high notes.

In fairness, that transition is arranged quite badly and is a pain in the neck to get right. |

I wish we could do a broadway show. This years is: Batman(from the movie, not cartoon), the Simpsons, Big Race(from pee-wees playhouse ) and remains of the day from corpse bride. It stinks.

I liked remains of the day. I'm sure it'll be fun.
This year, my old high school is doing a show based on Latin tunes. At their first competition, they scored a 68. Ouch! |
||||

I don't know about your region or class, but a 68 for the beggining of the season is healthy. Not great, but healthy. It really depends on the judges At our first competition, the lowest scores were in the early 60s (like... 61) and on that day, we scored around the 72-74 range (we had two competitions in one day.) This weekend, we posted the highest score in our class national (we're an A band this year because we moved divisions and have a ton of freshmen) at around 83 or so. It really depends on the judges; we had some pretty messed-up judging on Saturday. |

We are in Class 6A.
I don't know what region we're in, but we compete all around SoCal in the San Gabriel Valley, and San Bernardino county. Sometimes we compete against schools from San Diego too. |

Whoa... 6... that's huge! We're barely in category 4. |
