Gavroche confusion

in our les mis school edition of les mis our director was adamant that gavroche was eponines nephew (dont you worry auntie dear) i thought this line was just an expression
Orestes Fasting

It's an expression.

In the book, Gavroche is actually Eponine's little brother.

Azelma.

Because there are enough characters to deal with, much less one more Thnardier sister who isn't all that different from Eponine.

Also:

Oh, Thanks.

Direct the director to the chapter in the book "A rose in misery" where Eponine mentions a little brother. Then to the part where she's dieing and she specificy says that Gavroche is her little brother.

Also remind him that Eponine is the oldest Thenardier child, and she's 16. Gavroche is about ten. That means a child younger then Eponine would have had to given birth/fathered him when they were less then 6 years old. Shocked
So that doesn't make any sense.

Such things do happen in large families. A (Mormon) friend of mine from elementary school was older than his own uncle.

But in this stituation it's simply not possable. The Thenardier children are, in this order Eponine (16), Azelma(14), Gavroche(10-ish), the other two boy who I don't think are named ( 7 and 5, I think).

If Eponine was Gavroche's aunt, Azelma would have to be his mother. (as he can't be his own father, and the other two were born after Gavroche.) Azelma is deffinatally 14, and Gavroche is 10 (give or take a year)
That means Azelma would have had to given birth to him when she was about 4 years old! That can't happen.

In the stituation you mentioned, that just means his grandparents were still spitting out kids at an old age, or his parents had him very young (not like, 4 years old young, I highly doubt!) or abit of both.
