What Is This Feeling?

Gavroche's identity...Ok, I know in the book he is the son of the Thenardiers. Which makes him Eponine's brother. But is this true in the musical? Why would he refer to Eponine as "Auntie Dear"? Is it really important who his parents are?

He isn't talking to Eponine. He's talking to the audience. Eponine isn't even lit at that point. For some reason, it's a-okay for Gavroche to break the fourth wall. *Shug*

It's not mentioned in the musical, if that's what you mean.
Whether it's "true" depends on whether you think random facts from the book should apply to the musical.

I think that it is a good idea that the musical does not mention anything about it.
They are already too many coincidences and intertwined characters for the audience to process while they are watching the show. Gavroche being presented as ponine's brother or not doesn't change anything. In the brick it has a certain small importance because it kind of makes Marius decide to send him with the letter as a way to keep him away from the barricade because he's Thnardier's son, but since in the musical it is ponine who delivers the letter, there is really no need to mention the brother and sister thing. I think that it is much better to simplify things for the audience.
