I just saw THE worst Les Miserables SE ever.

At a state theatre festival. The costumes made the cast look like pirates, one of the revolutionaries had a hatchet, two others had swords, and one looked exactly like Napoleon Dynamite. The barricade was tiny, 7 feet wide TOPS.

The music they used had a terrible backing track. The group didn't have the best singers, but they did a mixture of some songs from the show, and they had the entire cast singing On My Own, I Dreamed A Dream, Castle On A Cloud, the Epilogue from when Valjean sings "On this page, I write my last confession...".

Did I mention their costumes were pitiful and spotlessly clean and they made solo songs sungs by the entire cast?

d'oh!

Man, it takes a lot to have a bad Les Mis show, and these kids made me almost not like Les Mis.

That's just insane. I can't think why anyone would do that. Maybe they wanted to include everyone as much as possible but it's still beyond ridiculous.

That's ridiculous!! If they don't have the singers, they should not compensate by putting the whole cast on the songs and BUTCHER the musical.

They shouldn't be allowed to do that.

Surely the copywright should have prevented them?!
Fantine

That also sounds really illegal.
RyanJ

It was a medley of songs from Les Mis SE, too. I think my director mentioned that they were using the backing track MTI gives them for basic rehearsals when they are blocking, and not ever meant to be used in an actual performance.

They were apalling. We also saw a Beauty & The Beast half-hour presentation where Gaston was looking down all the girls' shirts.

Enough said.

But our group did really well and was invited to go to nationals to perform, but it's way too expensive ($550 a person, and it's going up). We had a lot of great feedback.

What does?
Fantine

The show of course.
Mr_X

Sounds horrible. I could just imagine on the attacks on the barricade, while everyone's firing with guns, the ones with the hatchet and swords are just running around. Did they at last have something that rotated?
Aimee

How was it billed? Was it a semi-staged concert version of something? Or was it billed just as the normal SE?

If its the former then fair enough, makeshift / token costumes are OK but if it was meant to be the actual show then it sounds cringeworthy.
mizzie

It sounds awful. I'm so sorry!
RyanJ

MR_X: Nothing rotated, either. It was just two thin sheets of plywood with stands and they basically threw stuff together to make a barricade. d'oh!

Aimee: Broccoli Club for life! Wink Laughing It was made as a medley for a half-hour block of time. They did the finale before One Day More, as well. It seemed thrown together in a week, and the choreography made me want to laugh rather than pity the characters. When they sang Castle On A Cloud, Cosette and Fantine were doing ballet movements and the entire group was singing (except for Cosette, ironically)

Saying this performance wasted thirty minutes of my life is an understatement. I want to unsee this show.
Aimee

Got you. That's more acceptable than if they were meant to do the actual show. It sounds like it was done really badly but not as bad.
IvanP

And I was supposed to be there, but wasn't, due to having a prior commitment playing in the first violins for an All-County Orchestra concert of Borodin' Second Symphony, which rocked completely.

w00t.

Aimee: Broccoli!
RyanJ

Aimee:

<----Broccoli-er than Ivan!

Twas a good time regardless, the shows were mostly crap that we saw, minus one or two exceptions. Ivan we need to chill sometime, I never see you in school any more Sad

Call MTI. Someone's ass should get fired for that many contract violations.

Yeah, doesn't sound the best!! Our school show is chucking chorus in all the lead songs, which sucks because our chorus can't sing.

TVAW, you are my hero. I mean that. Cool
Rufelle4ever

I was in that show.

I kid, I kid

Sometimes if you can't have a solist sing the part because it isn't strong enough as a solo, you have to add many voices to make sure it is heard. It is all in the directors point of view0 Applause

You need to chill. You're acting like a 2 year old kid saying "MOMMY JOEY HIT ME!!" Who cares I'm personally betting MTI has bigger problems then this to deal with.

Well, MTI would be interested, as they're breaching copywright (If they got the right to do the whole show)

However, I do agree in the fact that there's no need to run to them. Yes, they did do a bad show, but really it's more hassle than needed to complain about it.

Still, when in the company of children, you don't need to set an example that it's okay to bend the rules (and break your legal contract) just because you want to do something the way you want to.

Why thank you.

Is now a bad time to mention I did once turn a group in to MTI? I have no idea what the outcome was, though.

Why yes, I seem to remember you slipping in an "*Ahem*" after a statement that said "I'd never do that myself" (Or something to that quotation)
