Intergenerational Les Mis

[soprano being silly and posting topics that don't make sense]

I know Les Mis is a modern show suited for a modern style of singing. However ... if you had a time machine or something and could transport Les Mis back into the days when movie musicals were rampant, who would you like to see in what roles?

I was watching this thing on PBS the other day about Hollywood Singing and Dancing, and I remember watching a clip from "Till the Cloud Roll By" (or maybe it was "Meet Me In St. Louis" ... I dont' remember) and thinking that if Les Mis were around when she was, Judy Garland would be Fantine (an amazing one). Kathryn Grayson would make a lovely Cosette, I think. As for Marius ... I think I could see a very young Sinatra singing the part well, if only he could act as well as he sang.

Hahaha, this post is bizarre.

Bob Hope as Thernardier

I'd say Shirley Jones as Fantine...though I don't know if a Soprano could play a Mezzo role like that but maybe, maybe.

I think Hermione Gingold would also make a good Madame Thenardier, and I'd want to see Robert Preston in their somewhere, maybe as Thenardier.

I think maybe Howard Keele could do Javert (his voice is deep sexiness XD)...I'm trying to figure out soemone for Valjean but I can't really think of anyone from the old days...

Isn't Fantine more of an alto role than a mezzo role? She only sings up to an E5, I think, and all the way down to a D3 (in the finale).

Annnnyway, oh yes, Howard Keel as Javert sounds fabulously wonderful. On the subject of Oklahoma!, I would throw Gordon MacRae in there somewhere ...

Frederic March.

I don't know who, when, or why, but I am in love with him.

I only love him when he picks up Fantine off the floor (for some reason that's that the only time he looks hot to me XD)

Yep, that's an accurate depiction of his hotness, methinks.

Because imdb won't let you hotlink (those fiends!):
