It's a small world...

So I have a funny Les Mis coincidence I thought you guys would appreciate:
I went down to Arkansas this past week for my grandma's funeral. My mom's cousin was going through old things of my grandma and she came across a book that belonged to my mom. What was that book but... the second volume of Les Mis! (And my cousin didn't even know about my obsession)
Here's the cool part though... there's a name written on the inside of the front cover, presumably of the first owner. The date next to the name is 1898!
Does anyone know when the first English editions came out? Maybe this was one of the first ones!
My mom has it right now but when she gets home I'll look at it and see if there are any more clues to help identify it. (I don't think there's a copyright page or anything)

The first English editions were published in June 1862.

So it's not one of the first then, unless the date isn't when it was first bought.
I still think it's pretty cool though.

This Christmas has been the holiday of Les Mis books- I got the unabridged edition from my brother. Wish me luck reading- I have to get through it before we go to Paris!

The unabridged version is awesome. Very Happy When are you going to Paris?

And if you hit a slow spot (there are many...) this page is invaluable.

That's quite handy. I might use that! It's been ages since I read the book and I really should re-read it. I should try my French version.

Looks like a good site- I bookmarked it

We are going to London/Paris over spring break... so this April. It seems like a long time but life can get pretty hectic so I want to make sure I have the book done by the time we go. We are going to hit all the good Les Mis sites thanks to your posts, OF
