Lazarus (Adam G)

Javerts Sucide

This is one of my favourite songs in Les Miserables. How was it staged on Broadway? Because in the book he has to leap into the swirling river, and then sink under; I'm no expert at staging, but I'm pretty sure you can't place a giant pool in the middle of the stage. T_T

I haven't seen it on Broadway, but my guess is that it was the same as on the West End, or at least similar.
A bridge is on the floor, suspended by wires from the ceiling. Javert stands on the brigde for most of the song, but near the end, he climbs over it so that he is standing right in front of it, as if it was above a river. On the last word (ooooon) he steps forward from the bridge, kind of throws his arms up and the bridge is quickly pulled upwards. The lighting on the stage floor is also kind of watery. It sounds strange, but it works.

^Yeah. . .what she said! Smile

It actually looks better than it sounds, and is pretty realistic looking.

It's beautifully done Smile I liked McCarthy's scene better than the current (well, he was... I forgot his name...) Javert.

Haha, read my review of Cornell John in the topic about the final production.

The theater I saw it at had a spinny stage so when he jumped off the bridge it looked like he was being tossed about by the waves. It was a cool effect.

All Cameron Mackintosh productions of 'Les Miserables' have a "spinny stage", or rather a revolving one.

Well I guess that shows how much I know about that. Rolling Eyes I guess I was confused because I heard someone say that they wish they could have seen the show with a spinny stage.
Timmy_Wishes he was Quast

Sometimes the revolve breaks and depedning upon how the technical crew decide to continue they perform the rest of the show as a concert version or with minimal staging! failing that they saw a Schools Edition.

I love the effect of Javert's suicide. McCarthy was WAAAAYYYY better than Cornell John..who couldn't act to save his life, IMO. But there you go each to their own.
