Jean Valjean and "Confrontation"

Hey all, I am a complete neophyte as per this forum, but, being a student-composer/vocalist and life-long musical theatre addict, I hope I won't be quite as clueless as some you may have encountered. Wink

At any rate, our college's MT program is putting on a soiree, complete with selections from famous shows. One of the faculty members, who is a diehard Mizzie, has decided to arrange a medley (perhaps smorgasbord might be a better term) of what I assume are her favorite numbers, as the order makes little sense, IMHO.

At any rate, I have been asked to sing Valjean... and Confrontation is on the list. Shocked
Being more of a baritone, getting the phrasing out on "race is not yet run" is going to be one helluva challenge.
So, after doing my research, I really don't prefer the way Wilkinson approaches the problem... and am looking for an alternative method.
Any thoughts?

I don't have any advice, I know. I wish I could help!

But really? What else does she have on there?

I believe it's something along the lines of:
"At the End of the Day"
"I Dreamed A Dream"
"Confrontation"
"Who Am I"
"A Little Fall of Rain"
"Do You Hear The People Sing"
"One Day More"

Strange, I know...

Well, that's not entirely out of order!

Just WAI? ALFOR, DYHTPS, and ODM are mixed up.

Yeah...

Yeah, I know... Ah, well. Rolling Eyes

My fellow baritone buddy and I were fighting over who should sing Javert, and I let him do it, so I'm stuck with Valjean, but we were both P.O.'d that she chose WAI over Stars. Crying or Very sad

well what would you do with Who Am I?

I assume you refer to the little V-I thing at the end of the last phrase, right?
If so, I would probably either float the "one" with a really light HV, or cheat and take it down an octave while compensating with a forceful delivery- as I know that there are certain *ahem* pro Valjeans who have done the latter. Wink

But neither of those really work for Confrontation, b/c "run" is not a final cadence, and the context is all wrong.

So yeah...

Just stay on the F. Don't take the B down an octave.

So as opposed to F- F-F- Bb, stay with an F throughout, correct?
That might work... hmm.

That was what was written in my vocal score as an alternate. I never used it though...

I was gonna use it at a matinee, but a rival production came to see it, and I wanted to show their Valjean up. lol
