Les Mis audition help please?

hey guys! how is everyone tonight?

well im auditioning for les mis school edition in a little while. it is for a very competitive theater group in my area, so im not expecting anything more than chorus, as this is my first show with the group. however, i really want to choose a good song to sing at auditions to make a good first impression on the director.

im a tenor/baritone. my highest note is a high b flat.

any suggestions?

thanks

DO avoid the songs that everybody is doing right now. These would include whatever selection books have just come out, as well as anything from Rent, even though Florida State does not have a list of songs that we absolutely will not hear. Other specific songs to avoid would be Falcon in the Dive or Memory.

In preparing for the audition, avoid choosing songs from ANNIE, BIG RIVER, CANDIDE, A CHORUS LINE, GREASE, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, SHOW BOAT or Gilbert and Sullivan and other operetta repertoire.

DO avoid the current hit from the current Broadway smash or revival. These songs are simply performed too often at auditions to work to your advantage and include numbers from The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Jekyll and Hyde, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Beauty and the Beast and Aida, among others.

Well it all depends what part you are hoping to get. Even if you are not meant to audition for a part as such, try to capture the mood of the character. In your range, Marius, Enjolras, and depending on what show you are doing, Jean Valjean. For Marius, maybe 'A little Bit of Earth' from secret garden would be good. For Enjolras, maybe 'How to succeed' from How to succeed in business without really trying or 'Giants in the sky' from Into the Woods. Both show belting as well as an intensity indicative of the character. I've said this is another forum, but I have many, many pages of information and packages on Musical Theatre auditions if you want them. Just PM me, buddy. And good luck Very Happy
