Les Mis Auditions

Ok, so I would like to audition for Les Mis at YMTC in Berkeley. Which is a youth musical theatre company for 8th through 12th graders. I have a vocal range of the D flat below middle C to the high E two octaves above middle C. So I have a little more than a three octave range. The thing is I can't decide who I should audition for, Fatine, Cosette or Eponine Exclamation So who do you think I should audition for and with what song?

It's not about which notes you can squeak out, it's about where your voice sounds good. Range doesn't tell us anything about what voice type you are.

I'm going to give you the bad news for each role, and let you take it as you will.

Eponine is a belty role, and you absolutely have to be able to hit that C in "...that I have never known" in full chest voice or it sounds like crap. If you're not a strong belter, you could wear out your voice really fast as Eponine.

Cosette's a legit soprano. If you have classical training it shouldn't be that hard, but you do need the classical training. You also need to be able to hit a couple high Bb's--reliably.

Fantine might not be as rangey as Cosette or Eponine (although she does have a low D in the finale), but I Dreamed a Dream hangs out right at the head/chest voice transition. You better be able to mix.

Thank you so much. That high E is about the highest I can go with out actually not being squeaky. Eponine sounds like the best choice for me. But I'd still like to hear other peoples' oppinions so please respond.

Oh, which songs, if not from Les Mis, should I audition with? That would also help me get ready for the audition.

Thanks greatly!
