Les Mis in Oslo 2009http://www.oslonye.no/forestillinger/15188.htmlPics from the 2009 production of Les Mis in Oslo. Performing until May sometime. It has gotten rather mixed reviews, mostly because of some "stunt casting" with celebrities as Fantine and Marius. And not really any definitive highlights, just overall... well... good when it's good, and bad when it's bad. The design is interesting, though. |

I don't know what the cast is like, but I wish I could see this production just for the visuals. Who are the man and woman in the pic with the purple background, by the way? They're obviously not Marius and Cosette or the Thenardiers- are they just ensemble people?

I love Norway, I love Les Mis. I wish I could see this.
Please let me know if it's gonna be extended to June or July. Maybe then I'd be able to actually go. And I love the pictures too. =) Are there any audio/video clips online or something? |

That actually IS Cosette and Marius... The Marius and Fantine roles are shared. I assume it's because... well... the roles might be too demanding for the stars... Although, as mentioned, I do think Christian Ingebrigtsen has potential. Scandinavian stage actors and actresses are spoiled, they never perform in summertime. At least not in the theatres, but maybe in movies, cabarets etc. Most theatres begin their season in late January, and end in late May. So if they extend the "Les Mis" run, I fear it will not help you, as they will close in May, and start up again in September. This has always annoyed me - all theatres go dark during dummer time here in Scandinavia. Why? That's when tourists visits, you know... And when I get to travel around to other cities. I agree that they should have some sort of vacation, but three months? I think not... Alas, I haven't found any online clips as of yet, but it's bound to show up, isn't it? Maybe something will appear in the official site. Glad you guys enjoyed the pictures! |

Wasn't he in the boyband a1? My best friend in junior school used to have a huge crush on him. The Marius in the picture with the purple background may give me nightmares. I've never seen a production where so many of the photos are crying out to be captioned. |

The very one! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Ingebrigtsen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A1_(band) (for some reason this forum doesn't accept the direct link, it clips the word band from the underscore. Copy and paste to get to the site...)) |

The forum must have taste... |

Haha, please do! I quite like the pictures. |

Wait! He's understudying Javert. Maybe it is a picture of father-and-daughter, and no Cosette and Marius? Although I'm not quite sure why they would post a pic of him in a role he's understudying, and not a role he's actually playing... That man has got a... well.. special face, not the typical Marius guy. But he is a wonderful musical artist. I've seen him in three other musicals, and he really has a noticeable stage presence (as well as a good voice). Fantine: I agree - I'd love to see some captioned pics. Some of them are literally asking for it... If anyone is interested in a brochure from this production, please tell me so. I live rather close to the theatre, so I can pop by and buy a couple. I looked through it today, and it's lovely. Lots of glossy photos, a cast list, an index of numbers (with Norwegian song titles) and some background stuff). I do, however, have some "ground rules", to quote Seinfelt: 1. Send me an email or PM telling how many you want, and where I should ship them 2. Pay in advance, with PayPal The program is NOK 50,- (equals 5,80, $7,33, GBP 5,17). Shipping will be app. NOK 40,- (equals 4,62, $5,86, GBP 4,32) |

Woah, did I miss something? Javert has kids? One of whom is Cosette? My copy of the brick is obviously missing a pretty interesting chapter! Or is this production brought to us by dodgy slash? |

Whooops... my mistake... I mixed up Javert and Valjean for a moment. I have no excuse for that, except that I'm very hungry... But it WOULD bring a new dimention into Victor Hugo's masterpiece (not saying he would AGREE, though... ) |

You know... I might read that fanfic.

"You know nothing of Javert"
I'd totally love it. Just imagine: J: Valjean never told you what happened to your mother. C: He told me enough! He told me YOU killed her! J: And how about your father? C: My WHAT? J: I AM YOUR FATHER. C: Noooooooo! J: You and I can defeat the Emperor! Come, let's rule the world like father and daughter! |

Here is a clip of the Norwegian Master of the House
operafantomet |
Just came back from this evening's performance at Osly Nye Teater, and I must admit I thought "Master of the House" was one of the best scenes. Dennis Storhi is awesome, ditto for his spouse Siw Anita Andersen! Excellent casting. But at the same time, a production isn't all that good if THIS is the number that impress me the most... My main issue with this production was that so many of the leads appeared wooden. This especially applied for Jean Valjean (Erik Wenberg Jacobsen), but also for many of the supporting roles. Some also struggles way too much vocally (Pia Tjelta, the woman playing Fantine, and the little Cosette actress). Eponine had a wierd, almost nasal timbre, and I also think she lacked a bit in the acting department. How can "On My Own" fail? How can a touching scene like Eponine's death be so dull? Jon Bleiklie Devik (Enjolras) had an awesome voice, but again.... wooden... There were people that I loved in the roles, that should be mentioned. Heidi Ruud Ellingsen as Cosette was gorgeous, she has such a lovely soprano voice and a good stage presence. Hans M. H. Mittet (Marius) has never disappointed me in any musicals I've seen him in. He is always so solid. Javert (Stle Ytterli) was odd. In a good way. His "Stars" was a bit sub-par, but other than that I found him highly intriguing as Javert. I can't pin-point exactly what and why, but he was quite different of other Javerts I've seen. Actually a bit frightning, very intense in a toned down way. Cool! The first half of the first act impressed me greatly, but from there it went downhill. Second act dragged out, I think much of the problem was due to the students not being able to establish themselves in the first act. I couldn't care less about them, which is a bad starting point for the second act... The set design was very, very funky. Frame in a frame in a frame, a bit "tableau" like. A tiny stage for such a production, but it worked, somehow. It became a bit static towards the end, when they had varied it as much as they could, but overall I liked the idea. There were also some good special effects, and introducing actual water for the "drain set" where Thnardier is robbing dead people was impressing. I also liked the more maritime setting/feeling. And the costumes was very proper for early 19.th century France. Choreografy: good. Orchestra: good. Chorus parts: very good. Seats: excellent. All in all, very mixed in my opinion. There were stuff I loved, but my general opinion is that they could have done better. Stronger leads (Valjean, Fantine, Eponine, Enjolras) would have helped a lot. |
