Les Mis won't close after her 21st birthdayLes Mis Breaks Record & Extends through Dec 2007Four years ago, when Andrew Lloyd Webbers Cats closed at the New London Theatre on its 21st birthday (See News, 8 May 2002), it held the record as the West Ends longest-running musical. This October, that record will be broken by another Cameron Mackintosh production, Les Miserables - which wont be stopping there. more |

Good, there was a voice in the back of my mind telling me it could close soon.
Glad I can still watch it for a few more years! |

I see no reason for it to close... it still selling out. Unless CM himself id bored of it, and as we, the public are not, why should he be? Cats audiences had been falling for some time so it was a good move to quit then before it got to a point, a few years down the line, where it would be forced to close which would have been sad.
I can see Les Mis going until 25 years at least. [but maybe thats cos I love it ] It would seem odd to me if it closed as its been there all though my adult life. It opened jus after my 20th B-day. |

Woo-hoo!!!
Great news!!! I will die the day it closes in London - it has been there all my life! lol. I was only a kiddo of 7 years when it opened at the Barbican. I attended the final L.A. performance of the 3rd national tour and I sobbed like a babe as it was the end of an era. I shall slip into coma and *die* when it closes in London, lol!!!! |

Hello
Enrique!!! SOO good to see you back again Considering that you die for so many things relating to Les Mis, it is really a miracle that you are still alive |

Nice to see you again too, LesMisForever!!!
*dies of excitement* :S |

I wuv you guys. Seriously I do. One of these days when we are all grown-ups (altough Quique may never become one, even though he is of considerable age ) we should arrange a meeting in NY or London and go watch the show and eat giant donuts or have tea with a cookie

Hello
Thanks Fantine (but, you better hurry up, because by the time you will be of "considerable" age i might be REALLY dead ) Seriously though, on the issue of closure. As Aimee said, it is still selling very well. I went last Friday, and it was about 90-95% full. I think the biggest fear is that merging/rebuilding plan CM has for his theaters. |

I LOVE Les Miserables..you know I always wondered how come it's lasted longer in London..do New Yorkers just get to bored..I don't know..but it closed in New York and is just now coming back..but it's still going steady in London! ..and good luck to it..I'm sure it'll be around for a long time..so sad because I can only do the school version for so mych longer and the rights are going to be CRAZY expensive..but it's good because you don't want AWFUL productions going up everywhere when theyer are amazing ones in London/New York/on tour! | ||

I'm happy to see that the show will continue to run in London, especially after the US tour closing recently.
Les Miserables is a beautiful peice of theatre (obviously) And I think it can appeal to many different audiences because there's somthing in in you can relate to, even in the slightest way. Having it close now, especially after all these years, will leave a hole in the theatre community. (We're so used to all the songs being performed night after night) It would be a shame to close it off entirely at this point in time. Audiences are still paying the money, so there's no reason for it to end. But we agree, when the show does decline in attendance (Hopefully not in many years from now knock on wood) It would be appropriate for its closing. But I doubt the production will disappear completely if this happens. It's become a legendary peice of theatre and there's no way they could take away our Les Miz for long. |

I'm so happy. I mean, obviously it will close some time but 2007 just seemed far too soon, even if it has been running since the 80s.
I was two-years-old when it opened but didn't become a fan until I was fifteen. With a lot of shows, I never got the chance to see them because they had either closed before I was even born or before I became a fan. LM has always been there, though, and it will be a tragic day when that's no longer the case. If it stays until it's 25 they really should do something HUGE to mark it. |

Les Miz has been around since before I was born. Now that I think about it, I have never known the London Underground without the Cosette logo printed up everywhere...
It's soooooooo good to know that it will be continuing after its 21st year. Now I can sleep at night. |
