Les Miserables Movie Script ... GONE >.<

Recently, my area of the U.S was hit by a sever thunder storm. And, while I was sleeping both my computers had been hit by lightning-- destroying all my files and modems.

Including my LES MISERABLES script I had finished-- and been perfecting since mid-late 2004.

I know, "You should have saved it to another source."

The first alternate source it had been saved to was my PC which had also been hit. And a few CDs my mom accidentally threw away. >.<

Luckily, I had saved three files to an email I sent recently to a friend.

It sucks for you but I never really cared about this project anyway.

Oh I know/knew this would never, atleast my script, turn into an actual movie. It was just something I did for fun.

I was on probably my fifth draft. Reading over it and making a few changes for the actions. I also had a book on hand for every scene. Trying to think how the characters would react to these songs-- and basing their body language and actions off that. Also nitpickingly used book descriptions of the characters and incorported into the script.

I started writing a LM movie script once... in a notebook, though. But I got as far as Valjean entering the bishop's house and lost interest. I always thought it would be great for a fan to write a script.

I've actually considered putting together one long accurate movie from the various partially accurate movies I have and putting it on youtube someday. That would be... messy, but fun.

Sorry about your work, though! I know how much it sucks to lose things like that.

You might want to start printing out hard copies of each act. I do that with most of my research papers, and I also keep a copy on my desktop PC as well as on my flash drive.

That's an excellent idea. I'm going to start doing that with my papers. I've lost a lot of work due to viruses and stuff like that.

Was all of your work saved onto those email files, Jemibub, or just a bit of it?
Quique

That really sucks a big one. I feel for you. Maybe that'll teach you to back up next time, lol. d'oh!

That's sad. Sad I always save things to storage sites like sendspace or I have a forum of some sort on the internet and I lock it, keeping it just for myself incase my computer goes KABOOM.

Jemibub, when were you planning on sharing this with the rest of the class?

I set up a network attached storage box at the house. It is a RAID 5 redundant array protected by surge supressors and a UPS. I use this as my primary file store with my laptop synchronized to it using the offline files feature of windows xp. This means that my data is always automatically in 2 different places, one of which is very secure. In addition I make periodic DVD backups that I keep in a bank safe deposit box.

I may be paranoid, but I've been in the computer business for over 30 years and I've seen it all. Bottom line: It doesn't cost that much to protect your data when you compare the protection cost to the data's value.

Holy crap, you might be a life saver!

Just remember that little over a year ago, I had posted links to one of my earlier drafts here. I pray the post is still here.

Sorry to let you know: they've already made a Les Miserables movie and are planning to make the musical version. The one already made is the one without music.
lesmisloony

ChorusKid... are you serious?

Sorry to let you know, but I did this script for fun with no real intentions of actually having my version turned into a movie. Yes, it would be awesome ... but, hell, who am I kidding?

Yes, there have been countless movies ... and given the fact that the book is now public property (the royalties end after 50 years after the author's death right), I do believe there will be countless more movies.

And for what you said about them making a movie version of the musical, do you mean the idea they've been having since around 2005?
Quique

They've been planning a film version since 1991. It was to be directed by Bruce Beresford (sp?), and Tristar Pictures. That project never came to fruition. Personally, I hope they never make a film version of Les Mis. They should just film the stage show in London and be done with it.

The film of the musical has been seriously attempted at least twice. In at least one they had even made it to a screenplay. Stephen Spielberg even attempted to make a film of Miss Saigon, but that was also dropped. I personally think that Martin Guerre is the only one of Boublil and Schnberg's works which could work well onscreen, although I'd be insanely excited to see someone try and make any of them work.

It is.

I remember why I wasn't too enthusiastic about it now. It doesn't seem any different from the libretto.

That was one of my earlier drafts. My latest draft was filled with heavy detail of action, character description, scenery, and what not.

Now that I have back one of my earlier drafts, I can work off of it.
