That's cool. Will be a non-replica production?

Someone translate! lol.

Thanks for that. Smile
Orestes Fasting

I think it will be non-replica. But Fantine'd better confirm that, because I can only read Dutch insofar as it's similar to German and English.
eponine5

Yay! I like hearing about new productions. When it comes to Dutch I have no clue, but it probably is non replica, since it doesn't have the usual mentioning of Cameron Mackintosh.
Fantine

OH MY ---- GOD!!!

OMG!!!! OH MY GOD!!! WHY DID I NOT KNOW THIS?!

I'm going to apply for an audition. Even if I am not really professionally schooled, I have to try.

This is wonderful, wonderful news Very Happy

I'll translate.

Translation to Les Miserables Terug in Nederland:
After 17 years the musical 'Les Miserables' will return to The Netherlands. The famous piece will premiere in April 2008 in the Luxor Theater in Rotterdam, where the show will be staged for a short period of time.

Les Miserables back in The Netherlands.

Joop van den Ende Theaterproducties says that the musical will be a little more modern and 'fancy' . "The costumes and the sets will be re-designed for the current day public," a spokesman says. If the lyrics will be adjusted as well, is unknown.

(Then the text continues about the story of Les Mis and about the Original Dutch Production and the people that starred in that production).

The only difference in the other article is (and it is a line very important to me Wink):
"New talent will be introduced in this new production of Les Miserables."

Oh My God. I still can' t believe it. How I wish I would have started at musical theatre this year.... :'(

Now what?
Fantine

This said, I believe it will be very similar to the Broadway Revival.
Orestes Fasting

Oh, please, let them fix the lyrics. Laughing

Whether or not it will have more changes than the revival seems sort of up in the air; there are a bunch of regional productions cropping up this year in Germany and Switzerland (and in the US next year) that might not be based on the London design at all.
Fantine

Must say I'm not a big fan of the Dutch lyrics either. They are old fashioned. So who knows?

I WANT TO BE IN THAT CAST!!!!!
kozafluitmusique

Oh
my
Gosh

And I'm moving to The Netherlands this summer....

This is made me seem more excited about moving there!!!!

I'll leave the translation to Fantine. Razz
Fantine

Oh God.

Okay, first article:
Fantine will be played by Nurlaila Karim.
She now plays Dorothy in The Wiz. In 2001 she won a 'John Kraaijkamp Musical Award' for 'Best Female Lead' for her role in RENT.
(So it looks like we, too, are getting a non-caucasian Fantine).
My personal view: Hmmm... She's tiny. I have never seen her live, but of course she is in commercials for The Wiz. Can't say too much for now.

Furthermore from this article it is clear that Cline Purcell (who is now in My Fair Lady as Eliza and has been starring in Miss Saigon (Ellen (u/s?)) and Mamma Mia! (Sophie) will be a part of the cast (here is a photo of her: http://www.unlimited-online.nl/listings/images/4_2.jpg) I would say she would make a perfect Cosette (she is a light soprano). I've seen her quite a couple of times on TV and she'll do fine.

And Carlo Boszhard will also be a part of the cast. (He played Lumiere in BatB recently, so I'm guessing he'll be up for Thenardier, but they might surprise me). (here's his pic: http://home.hetnet.nl/~telekidsfan/images/carlo_close.jpg)

Article 2:
Oh, now I find out that Cline will be playing Eponine. That's still a bit of a surprise. I'm terrified that she will perform the "Diana Kaarina" type of Eponine. Let's hope the director is good. (Cline is cute).

Article 3:
I was right. Carlo will be playing Thenardier.

OVERVIEW:

Fantine: Nurlaila Karin
Eponine: Cline Purcell
Thenardier: Carlo Boszhard

(I'm betting on Cosette - Chantal Janzen).
Elin

Marius has been cast:

From what I gather Cammack wants to try something 'new'.. god knows what. Hopefully it won't be too different from the London production.
Producing company is Stage Entertaiment, also responsible for Les Mis Berlin.

It's already been confirmed that Les Mis wil return to Belgium, it'll be the set used for the new Dutch production. Cast will be Flemish, here's hoping that Hans Peter Janssens will play Javert!
Fantine

Nooooooooooooo not Jamai! He won the first edition of 'Idols' here in the Netherlands...

I might as well die now.

"Trying something new" is usually a good thing, but when it comes to Cammack, it usually means stripping the orchestra and cheapening/cutting/speeding up the show. Rolling Eyes
Fantine

I've seen Nurlaila KariM perform on the Musical Awards here, she was singing songs from the upcoming production of Dirty Dancing and she rocked! I'm a lot more positive now Smile
Elin

Valjean - Ren van Kooten

I saw the very first promotion for this new cast yesterday. They weren't in costume but performed during the " Uitmarkt" in Amsterdam. They were very good! The only one I'm dissapointed with is Celine. What a miscast. If anyone ought to be Cosette it should have been her. Definitely NOT Eponine. They sang 'I Dreamed a Dream' and 'One Day More.' At first I was unsure about Nurlaila but boy, what immense power! She'll be booming out of the theatre in that role Smile I'm very exited.

Rene sounds a lot like Henk Poort, the Javert seemed a bit uncertain in the role but well, that's natural in these early stages I suppose. The Cosette was someone I don't know but she was alright I think. Celine seemed an angry Eponine, which is good, as long as she doesn't overdo it. I feared for a cutesy 'Ponine with her in the role... The Thenardiers were alright, I was impressed with Enjolras (He's HOT!) I was VERY impressed by Jamai as Marius. He sounds like Michael Ball, he has a full and warm voice. (Which is SO good because I detest the light squaky voices of most Marii).

And yeah, overly exited!

I'll try finding a clip somewhere...

EDIT: Here it is.

(I have no sound, so I'm not sure if the quality of this unprofessional is good).
Elin

Cosette - Suzan Seegers.

Fantine

Yes. Sigh.
eponine5

Shocked Wait, Suzan Seegers was the one from the program Op Zoek Naar Evita wasn't she? Confused I have no idea what she's like live, but if it's anything like she was on that show, it can't be too good...
Fantine

That's right. She was the second finalist.
Electricity24601

Fantine- did you every get a chance to audition for this production? How'd it go?
Fantine

I did audition Smile
It was fun but there were over 300 young guys and girls auditioning, most of them from musical acadamies. The Dutch producers have a thing of picking already famous people for every single role, so I think that if 6 people out of those 300 made it into the production, that's a lot.
Needless to say, I didn't make it into the next round.
It was also my first audition ever, but I had to give it a try or I would never forgive myself for not auditioning for my favourite musical! (Also you had to get invited based on your C.V. so I did a good job at that) Smile

wait....did your C.V. have any shows or just training?
Electricity24601

That's great for your first audition! Sounds like a fun experience. Always next time, right?
angelofdreams

i do think the show wil stand or fall with the cast,
specially because it is in Dutch.
the feeling you get when hearing the music in english and then in dutch, its less emotional unfortunatly but really looking forward to go and see it when i am back in holland
xx

I agree. I love the musical in English, but I feel rather uncomfortable listening to it in Dutch. Not all the time, but there are pieces where I think the translation is not all that good.
I liked the cast when they preformed at the Uitmarkt though, so if I've got the money I might check it out. Smile
Fantine

Ordered and picked up my tickets yesterday Very Happy
