Master of the HouseDoes anyone have any advice for singing the song "Master of the House"? I'm singing it as an audition song for another play. Any advice on character voice, hand motions, facial expressions? Any advice is appreciated.

It doesn't seem like the best audition song to me, especially if you're going for a part that doesn't have a character voice...but that's just me.

What show/part are you auditioning for?
I think its fine if its a evil yet comic character like Fagin etc but it's not one that shows off your voice, it's very wordy and the guy really isn't very nice.
Go for it, if you think it's right. but make sure it is right. If you think it is right then we can give more advice.
let us know.

I'm auditioning for Rooster in Annie. I thought it would be a good song because they are both the bad guys, or at least their songs are.

Going off what you're auditioning for, I'd agree with your audition piece - a good choice. However, I have never auditioned for a musical, so can't really give you advice (but I'll be auditioning for Javert next year for SE). Anyway, I think MotH is a good choice.

Thenardier is mean, in it for himself and very aware of what he is doing. He sings part of the song to 'us' and part to his customers. Make sure you can show the panel that you know which part is which. You'll have to work that our for yourself. He is also funny because in that song he hasn't shown his evil side yet.
He is ever so slightly hammy in this song but with an under current of vice.
