my Les Miz SE production (a couple new vids)

Hey there, I just needed to vent this out - a good vent!!!

I am SO freakin' proud of this Les Miz SE production I've been working on!!!!!! I feel like a proud mama! Smile

Seriously, this show turned out to be AHHHHH-MAZING! Our leads rock my world, and the chorus sounds like a bunch of freakin' angels it's so beautiful. The sets are great, the lighting is beautiful, and the rotating stage kicks @ss!

This production is fan-flippin'-tabulous. I know that's not even a word, but there are no words to describe how I feel about this show. I was the choreographer and staged a majority of the show. And even though I'm not in it I don't care becuase this show is honestly one of the best shows I've ever been a part of.

And these kids are high schoolers!! And I know that most of you here are high school kids - but be honest. How many 17 or 18 year olds can really put the depth, and passion, and have the talent to pull off these characters. I mean our Valjean literally takes my breath away everytime he's on stage. These kids blow my pants off! (Not just my socks LOL Smile )

I mean check out this letter to the editor that was in the paper this week:

Quote:
Les Miserables is worthy of the pros

All morning I have been trying to think of the words that justify the beauty of xxxx High School's production of Les Miserables. I cannot. It truly was the best musical put on by a high school that I have ever seen and, believe me, I have seen a few.

All of the kids involved were so very good, from the youngest on up -- and then there was the wonderful Cameron xxxxx as Jean Valjean. He is as good as any professional Valjean I've seen, and the role is usually played by a man twice his age.

Try to go. Bring some Kleenex, sit back and enjoy this production. It won't happen again.

Eve xxx

AMAZING!!

Here's a couple of pics. These were just the ones the newspaper took. I'll try to have some more production pics for you soon, and maybe even a clip or two of the show Smile

Thenardiers and Cosette during the bargain. (Cosette didn't have her costume yet.)

Marius and Eponine.

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!
Fantine

The costumes look awesome. If you are so convinced of its amazingness, you'll definitely have to provide us with more evidence Wink
bigR

Congratulations!
I'm not a big fan of school productions, but after reading your post I would love to see some more evidence of the awesomeness of yours Very Happy

Ok - so I should have more pics and the vid in a week or so. I'll probably need help figuring out to to post a video clip, I've never done that before. I'll let you all know when I have it. Also, if I could only put up one or two clips of the show, which numbers would you want me to post?[/quote]
curlyhairedsoprano91

Please post, if you could:

One Day More
A Heart Full of Love
Empty Chairs
Castle on a Cloud.

And one Valjean showcase.

Congrats on what sounds like a fabulous production!
Fantine

Forget Castle on a cloud Wink

One Day More just has to be there. I'd like A Heart Full of Love too.
bigR

yes, forget castle on a cloud! And forget Empty Chairs too!
If you are uploading just a few clips I prefer to see something with more actors in it, even more if you are the choreographer.
I like the idea of One Day More and A Heart Full of Love, and please, add something else with several people in it, like lovely ladies, red and black, or some barricade. whatever you are more proud of.
And of course, we have to see that Valjean!

[and this is not related at all with your production, but I don't want to start a new tread for something like this: does anyone have the link for the scary school production with the 1.000 cosettes? Yesterday I tried to show it to someone and I wasn't able to find it]
Colle

I am looking forward to the clips. If you are going to show clips with a lot of the actors, go for "One Day More." I would also like to see "Look Down" and "The Robbery."My favorite solos are "I Dreamed a Dream" and "On My Own," but show whatever you think is best.

Be careful with that, though. Razz
sunrae

OK - as soon as I get the video I plan on putting these up...

End of the Day
Lovely Ladies
Heart Full of Love
Do You Hear the People Sing
One Day More (of course Wink )
Bring Him Home
Barricade stuff (not sure what yet)
The Wedding (I want to show off the waltz I did Smile )

That's probably plenty! haha Smile I hope I get the video soon, I can't wait to post some of this stuff. (Oh, and when I get it I might need some technical help with uploading the vids.)

That was the most cracked-out thing I have ever seen. I'm disturbed.
sunrae

Hahaha, never gets old. XD Worse thing in the history of the world.
bigR

Priceless. We should make a poll and pick our favourite number.
Moci

This video never gets old

It has to be Stars for me personally. Nothing says obsession and religious devotion like dodgy interpretive dance. I think all productions should attempt to incorporate someone who is halfway between Liesl from 'The Sound of Music' and Kate Bush in the video for 'Wuthering Heights' rushing about the stage as if they're demented.

'A Little Fall of Rain' is a bit special aswell. I love the concept of random characters having precognitive abilities and knowing that there is a boy on the barricade before said character has entered the stage, let alone got anywhere near the barricade. Again, I must be a sucker for interpretive dance, but I can't help but feel that it captures the very core of the song. Whilst the disembodied voice of Frances Ruffelle insists that she feels no pain, the audience truly feels the pain that she is denying, because watching it is such a painful experience, either through wanting to kill yourself or because you hurt so much from laughing.

Also, I do love Valjean in a wheelchair, especially when he's brandishing his letter to Cosette like a razor and with a spotlight bleaching his face, he's looks more Sweeney Todd than Jean Valjean.

Anyone who denies the awesomeness of this production simply does not appreciate what Hugo truly intended. Wink

(If you watch their production of Jekyll and Hyde, they actually announce at the beginning that there is an ambulance ready for anyone who needs it. This amuses me greatly.)
EDIT: for general lack of spelling ability
Catherine

"This is only a yellow ticket

of leave"

And of course, there is the guard calling Valjean "fool"
And "Red red red! Black black black!"
Does anyone feel like saying "Boo-f*cking-hoo" when Valjean ays "We were starving!"
I think I'll enjoy toturing myself for a min.
Kragey

I do feel kind of bad mocking the guy in the wheelchair...

If it makes you feel better, he only seems to be in the wheelchair at the end when he is supposed to be old and decrepit, the rest of the time he appears to be perfectly capable of walking around the stage. I think it's supposed to be an artistic decision.

...oh. Well, in that case. WTF?
Fantine

Haha Laughing
sunrae

Finally got the chance to watch that video....I couldn't watch the whole thing though!! THE HORROR!!!! Shocked That was painful in way too many ways! The interpretive dance, the William Shatner-esque delivery of lines, the 7 Fantine's.....it was AWFUL! I can't believe that someone actually thought that was a good idea.*shudder*
sunrae

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!! Very Happy

I just TODAY got my pics and dvd from the Les Miz SE production I worked on. Yes, the show was the beginning of May...yes, it's now the middle of July....whatever. At least I got it!

Ok so - I have no idea how to get videos up here, so I'm working on that. But here are some photos for your enjoyment....

Catherine

Those are fab pictures!!

I especially love Lovely Ladies and The Runaway Cart pic. Looks like a fab production!
sunrae

Well, I can't figure out how to post the video directly on this site, so here's the link to it on YouTube.

One Day More video clip

I'll work on getting some more clips up over the next few days as I can.

LEt me know what you think!
sunrae

has anyone had the chance to look at the One Day More video?

If so - what did you think?

Would anyone like me to try and post some other clips?

Oh, and Catherine - thanks for the comment about the pictures! I'm so glad you liked them! The high school's costumer is really great, gotta give props to her!
bigR

I've just watched the video, and while the whole production seems above average for a student's edition I am really impressed by your Valjean! Is that an unexperienced teenager? WOW!
Please, could you post some more Valjean clips?
zombiefl12

Yea, definitely post more! That was really great for a high school! I'd be interested in seeing some more clips.
jackissensational

Did your Madame Thenardier have a hoop skirt on? She looked fieeeeerce. Eponine looked the part but I'm not sure about her voice. Valjean was excellent. Looks like a great show for a high school.

Do you mind posting 'Bring Him Home'?
Catherine

I really liked it! Sounds like a great production. I esp. like Valjean. We need more vids!! =]
curlyhairedsoprano91

It sounds good. Valjean has a very mature voice ... go him!
It sounds a lot better than a lot of the SE productions I've heard. After Valjean, Marius has the prettiest voice, although he sounds like he could use some training (but he's got a lot of potential). Fro!Enjolras made me laugh, and his voice wasn't bad, either.

I didn't really like either of the girls. Eponine's voice sounded weak, and Cosette's sounded like ... how do I put it ... "Ugh, I really wanted to play Eponine, but I guess I have to do this so I'll sing it exactly like I would sing if I were playing Eponine." Nice voice, though, just wrong for the part.

All in all, the singers were pretty good, the staging was awesome, the lights and the costuming were spectacular. Rock on!
sunrae

Oh yay! Thanks everyone! I'm so glad you enjoyed the clip! Very Happy The show (for a bunch of high schoolers) really turned out great.

Isn't our Valjean fantastic! He was amazing - and as far as I know the only training he's had is high school choir. From what the director shared with me, he came into high school as a shy freshman with an okay voice, but over the years (he was a senior for Les Miz) he really blossomed. I told the guy that he better persue musical theatre becuase if not he is robbing the world of a great talent - he has so much potential!

Most all of the leads were seniors - except Cosette, Enjolras, and Thenardier were all sophmores I think.

Yes Madame Thenardier had a hoop skirt - and yes she is totally fierce! It's funny because she really wanted the part of Fantine, but she was SO great at Madame T! She really rocked the part.

I will get some more clips up later tonight (I'm at work right now) so check back tomorrow.

I'll post "Bring Him Home" for sure - and maybe a couple other VJ clips. I'll also get some other stuff up like Heart Full of Love and part of On My Own. The two girls are pretty good, I don't think that One Day more showcased them the best though.

Alright - well, check back tomorrow for more vids!!!

Thanks again everyone!
sunrae

Here's a few more clips...I didn't have time last night to put up too many, but I'll get some others on there.

Bring Him Home
Here's a bunch of Valjean clips
